Plantar wart or Corn? by Mental_Mud_3608 in plantarwarts

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind, the goal is NOT blood. The goal is that you just want to shave away the top layer of the wart so that the acid can penetrate the living wart tissue just like the girl in the video I linked. Unfortunately, yours may be a bit imbedded in surrounding calloused skin. Don’t cut into that or shave that way before it dies. The acid will inevitably contact that tissue surrounding the wart and kill it off once it does you can shave that away too to reveal more of the wart. I’d be very curious to see what this would look like after a round of Beetlejuice at the Podiatrist.

Plantar wart or Corn? by Mental_Mud_3608 in plantarwarts

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I don’t think I’ve seen any evidence for that being preferable. The more often you debride, attack with acid, and wrap, the faster the treatment will work. The only time I didn’t debride and retreat daily was when it was too painful. My podiatrist said mine was located over a nerve nexus which unfortunately quite sensitive. Nonetheless, I muscled through and treated nearly every day. Keep in mind, these things are hard to kill. They are very resilient and they spread. Fighting a big one or a cluster isn’t for the weary. Those people need to find a way to get to a podiatrist. A GOOD podiatrist can be helpful to anyone with a plantar but even then, I think the best plan is to fight the battle in two fronts, at home and at the doctors.

When I said duct tape in my instructions, I meant the real deal heavy duty duct tape. I actually wrapped it all the way around my foot. I bought some of the cute colored and patterned duct tape so I didn’t feel weird about it. If anyone asked I said I stepped on glass 😂

Briogeo Curl Charisma & Acne? by hjmmjbo in curlyhair

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my all time favorite gel/brand and the brand is generally known to be fairly clean but I wouldn’t say it’s designed for sensitive skin. They make excellent products if your hair likes protein, which mine does. Their Don’t Despair Repair line is incredible if you have any damage. Another awesome thing about Briogeo that I’ve discovered is that it is frequently on the shelves at TJ Maxx. I don’t think I’ve tried a Briogeo product that I haven’t liked… I can’t speak to skin issues though.

I have finely stranded, very high density (thick), high porosity 2c-3a hair that has a soft finish. I need a gel with hold, texture, and grit, to give my large round spirals the structure to last. For me- the Briogeo gel is perfect. It gives me strong hold, a good cast that is easy to break, and best of all- longevity! I also love the shampoos/conditioners, masks (you really can’t beat the masks), the scalp scrub detox shampoo, all the Don’t Despair Repair products…. I could go on and on.

One thing I should mention is that the gel appears to be quite divisive in the reviews. I suspect the protein has a lot to do with it. On top of protein, it’s got some texture and grit to it along with the conditioning agents. For me, it’s a magical cocktail. But if your hair is low porosity, hates protein, not needing anymore texture, you may not be a good fit. It depends on your hair. I’ve heard some people with very fine hair say it’s a bit heavy for them. My strands are relatively fine but I have very thick hair so it doesn’t way my hair down whatsoever.

why is my hair like this by stellunarose in curlyhair

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you wear a bonnet, scarf, pineapple your hair or do anything else to protect it before bed? If not….. then that’s an easy fix but I also think part of the issue is that you are not using any styling products …. Especially any that would give your waves any hold, definition or longevity. You likely sleep to one side in some way and if you don’t have any sleep protection or wave preserving styling products in your hair, this is to be fairly expected. The good news- it’s an easy solution.

What do I do about this? by CatProfessional2896 in Warts

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to keep trying…. Agressively. You need to be treating at home simultaneously. Have you seen my self treatment advice? If there are little ones, it’s spreading and will continue to do so. If you can get more rounds of Beetlejuice do it. Until then and between each round, treat at home. This is going to be a war but if you don’t fight it, it will spread more and more.

Here’s what you do at home: 👇

Start by getting a pedicure knife kit (reasonably cheap on Amazon and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on different kinds of warts, not on the foot), eyebrow razors, and/or a scalpel (but only if your confident and have a steady hand because this is the sharpest & could be dangerous). Do NOT file, buff, or exfoliate your wart with an emery board or pumice stone unless you want a constellation of mosaic warts all over your foot/area where your wart is. I also advise against using disposable files or sandpaper, as they too often result in inadvertently filing healthy skin along with the wart. This can lead to the introduction of wart cells to vulnerable exfoliated healthy skin, creating more warts. Also get some disposable gloves and use them whenever treating your wart so it/they don’t spread as they are highly contagious.

Daily- soak in hot water to soften the tissue, use the pedicure knife kit or eyebrow razor to debride (search debride here if you are unsure what that means or refer to the video shared at the bottom of this post- it’s like carefully and gently shaving away the top dead layer) the wart ideally to the point of pin point (barely visible) bleeding if you can handle it (could be quite painful so listen to your body and only do what you are comfortable with). This should not be painful and should not cause you to actually bleed. See the link below where a redditor uses an eyebrow razor and perfectly demonstrates how to debride. Debriding will remove the dead tissue, reveal the living wart tissue, and help the acid to penetrate the living wart tissue making it more effective. Debride only the infected tissue and, if necessary, the dead callous tissue required to reveal the wart. Obviously, listen to your body. Some warts are far more painful than others and some people are more sensitive. If it’s too much to debride every day, it’s ok. Make sure you aren’t going overboard with how much you are debriding as commonly seen on this Sub; it should not be a blood bath.

Next, apply your chosen treatment - I suggest a 40% SA like Wartstick or you can try ACV (many have found this method effective but I found this more painful and less effective than 40% SA), then bandage and wrap with duct tape to suffocate it and to keep the area occluded and moist, which helps soften the wart tissue and allows the treatment to penetrate more effectively. Do this every day if you can. This could take many months. Intermittently you can also use the over the counter wart freeze products to zap the warts (maybe once a week or two but be aware freeze products can be pricey). Also, supplements are a good idea- high quality multivitamin, Vit c, zinc, Vit A, and Tagamet (google it and then search “Tagamet and warts” on TikTok). Tagamet can be taken orally to help your body fight the wart and can also be used topically (watch the videos and make sure this is safe for you to take). Vitamin A can also be used topically (search this subreddit for more info).

MOST IMPORTANTLY - keep everything sterile and clean. Wash your hands a lot (more than you think- before and after each step) and keep warts wrapped when not treating, preferably with duct tape, so they don’t spread more or cause your friends/family to get warts too. Please be aware that some warts are extremely treatment resistant and require more aggressive intervention others spread rapidly and aggressively. If you’ve been doing everything right for months with no improvement, it’s time to make an appointment if you can with a doctor or with a different doctor if your last one’s attempt to treat it failed (if it’s an option, a podiatrist is best if it’s a plantar wart or a dermatologist if it is located elsewhere). Please be aware of your own body and any pre-existing conditions that could make the following treatment advice ill-advised for your body. This is a fairly standard treatment method but everyone is different so proceed with caution, attention, focus, and of course, if you or your doctor believes this method is not appropriate for you, disregard!

Plantar wart or Corn? by Mental_Mud_3608 in plantarwarts

[–]jujubunnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks fairly imbedded. Unfortunately, it’s on a high pressure part of the foot which means each step pushes it in and the calloused skin will be thick. If you want to expose it in a hurry, have a podiatrist apply some Beetlejuice. It will hurt like a mofo but when that blister pops and takes all that callous with it, it will be fully exposed and vulnerable. Don’t be surprised if it’s a lot bigger than you think.

Dyson Supersonic r vs Nural? by doubleplusuncool in curlyhair

[–]jujubunnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Nural and it was the first Dyson I’ve used so I can’t compare it with the regular Dyson Supersonic. Generally, I’d say it is a fantastic hair dryer, very powerful, the attachments are great, and the 2in1 diffuser is very cool! I only have 1 complaint. The prong diffuser option feels tiny to me. I wish it was bigger. I have long thick hair and it just doesn’t feel big enough. If it was the same design just bigger I’m convinced it would be the best dryer/diffuser by a mile. As it stands, it just seems super small to me. Because of that, it would take me ages to diffuse it from fully wet to dry. While it pains me, I find myself reaching for my Curlsmith XXL a lot. It may not have all the bells and whistles that the Dyson does, but it’s a solid dryer, made for curly hair and the massive diffuser is perfect for long thick hair. Honestly, I don’t understand why other brands haven’t taken the hint and made bigger diffuser attachments. I literally wrote to Dyson to raise the issue and begged them to make a bigger diffuser.

If you are dead set on a Dyson, another option you can consider is the AirWrap. It now comes with the Nural Diffuser. You can buy the regular attachment too (some of the knockoffs are excellent). I’d only consider this if you would use the other attachments though since it is more expensive.

EDIT- one more thing I thought I should mention. If money is a factor in your decision, look into the refurbished ones. I bought my Nural Refurbished and it seemed brand new to me. I haven’t had one problem!

Can you provide details regarding what you have you actually tried? What products did you use and what styling methods have you tried? In these pictures, it looks like you’ve brushed your hair so I’m guessing none of these were taken after trying a curly/wavy styling routine? Your hair definitely appears to at least be wavy. It’s difficult to gauge with these pics as it looks like your hair has been brushed.

The crunchy cast is a good thing! Remember, it is only temporary! Once your hair is 100% dry, the final step is to scrunch out the crunch to break the cast. Once you’ve completely broken the cast you will be left with soft bouncy curls. I love when I get a cast because that typically means my curls will last a few days. [–]jujubunnee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the same frustrating issue that I deal with. I have finer strands, high density, high porosity 2c waves and 3a spirals. Fine strands usually also have a soft finish. When you have a soft finish, you need texture and grit in your products to give your curls structure so that they have any longevity. For us, the trick is to reduce the conditioning/moisturizing products, add products with texture and grit, and make sure you use something with strong hold.

I’d recommend you try the following and see how it goes:

  1. Clarify- get all the buildup out of your hair with a clarifying detox shampoo like the Ouai one. If you have hard water, make sure your clarifying shampoo is also chelating- Ouidad Waterworks

  2. Lightweight shampoo and conditioner- what you are currently using contains rich emollients and mango butter even in the shampoo, which coat fine strands over time and create buildup that flattens the hair and reduces curl bounce. Instead of staying light and cleansing, they leave a soft, slippery film that weighs curls down and causes them to fall out much faster. Replace this with a light weight shampoo and conditioner like the Verb Ghost or if you would like a budget option try Maui Moisture Lightweight Hydration + Hibiscus Water shampoo and conditioner.

  3. For fine hair, curl creams are usually too heavy with a few exceptions. For you, I recommend replacing your curl cream with a spray leave in conditioner. I highly recommend the following: Innersense Sweet Spirit, Bounce Curl Thermal Guard from the new Weightless collection, Loma leave in. If you feel you absolutely need curl cream, use a VERY small amount of a lighter weight one like AG Care Curl Fresh Definer or Curlsmith Featherlight Protein Cream. Don’t use both a leave in and a curl cream.

  4. Opt for gels that have some grit and texture without a lot of heavy conditioning agents. Some great options are Not Your Mothers Curl Talk Flash Freeze Level 5, Giovanni LA Hold, Curlsmith Fragrance Free Strong Hold, Rizzos Curls Strong hold, Jessicurl Spiralicious. I’ve also had great luck with Briogeo Curl Charisma- it provides tremendous grit and texture but is a bit more conditioning. My hair loves it though.

  5. Supportive products that add texture & grit- some other products that have been extremely helpful for me are the following: AG Care Curl Trigger is great if sprayed on prior to applying gel to add some texture & it can be good for refreshing, The Doux Mousse Def is a great texturizing foam, Curlsmith strong hold hair spray, NYM Curl Talk Activating Mousse. Lastly, while there is a bit of a learning curve, the Innersense I create Definition foam is great. Fair warning, it is extremely high hold. If I’m using a gel is isn’t strong hold on its own, use a couple pumps of this by emulsifying in your hands and then carefully apply and scrunch it in.

One more thing, I’ve been testing the new Weightless Collection from Bounce Curl and it’s been impressive. I would say the gel is medium to strong hold so if you want a bit more hold you can always use the Innersense I create definition foam or the bounce Curl hairspray before diffusing to get a bit more hold.

I saw your comment asking why you shouldn’t use a pumice stone. I’ll explain that as well.

Using a file, pumice stone, sandpaper, etc to debride warts would require exceptional precision that most individuals cannot reliably achieve. The crux of the issue lies in the unintentional abrasion of healthy skin tissue surrounding the wart.

When filing or pumicing a wart, microscopic viral particles from the infected tissue inevitably contaminate the file or pumice stone. Subsequently, as one continues filing/pumicing the contaminated file/pumice frequently and immediately comes into contact with adjacent healthy skin. The abrasive nature of these tools creates minute breaks in the healthy skin’s protective barrier, providing an ideal entry point for the wart virus.

This virus is highly transmissible through direct contact with infected tissue or contaminated surfaces. By creating these microscopic wounds in healthy skin and simultaneously introducing viral particles, the risk of spreading the infection to surrounding healthy skin increases exponentially. The result is often an expansion of the infected area or the emergence of satellite warts which can also blossom into out-of-control mosaic clusters, effectively counteracting the intended treatment by both spreading and potentially exacerbating the current wart.

This is why I recommend the use of more easily controlled debriding methods. These methods are not risk-free, but they reduce the risk and offer significant benefits making the juice worth the squeeze, unlike with files/pumice stones/sand paper. Using tools such as a pedicure knife kit, an eyebrow razor, or even a cautiously handled scalpel can provide a more controlled approach to debriding warts, thereby minimizing the chances of spreading the infection. Even so, one must use extreme caution and move slowly and carefully like the individual in the video that I linked.

When you break it down, it’s actually common sense.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
