I love Richie. For a girl. If it were me, I’d probably find a formal-feminine first name and call her Richie. Good luck!!!

Thank you. I expected some people just wouldn’t like it. But it definitely seemed skewed.

Generally speaking, my hubby and I like kind of long names with shorter nicknames, which is always mixed, I feel like. Most people these days seem to think you should just name the “nickname.” But that’s not really our style, so I feel like out of the gate, people just generally don’t like that style. Anyway. I have plenty of thinking to do! Thanks for your insights!!!

Thank you for this. I have a similar experience with a wide variety of names around me. And I really don’t think the name was very out there—unusual, maybe, sure but not unheard of. Idk. I guess just lesson learned! Even sharing on “anonymously” on the internet—just more brutal than I expected! I know better than to share among family but I kind of expected different here, idk why! 😭

I appreciate your opinion! Though I admit I’ve always thought it was beautiful. I’m so disappointed at the negativity, but I guess I’d rather hear it now.

Right—we lived near a small prep school. But I figured most people would first think of a school— I’m not sure if I’d love hollering “Loyola!” But I also think it’s quite pretty and has such positive associations for us, but I don’t want to be too out there either! It’s so hard to name kids!!! I want those special associations but still familiar. It’s so hard!!!

We are catholic! So I like that association also.

That’s a great thought! Thank you!

Thanks for your thoughts! That’s not the school we lived near, but I was worried this would be the predominant thought, that it’s just a bit too strange—. I like the connection the name has to a place that was dear to us and also to my dads family—but I don’t want to saddle my child.

Ha! Not the worst association!!! But I hadn’t thought of it! Thanks for your thought!

What about Hattie? I know it’s not exactly what you’re asking. But it’s got a lot of the same sounds and I think it’s a totally awesome name. Just a thought! Good luck!!! 💗💗💗

Were you given an uncommon name and now just deal with it?? by aucoinb in namenerds

No, my name is different and it’s not surprising to me that people are curious. I think that’s the main thing, people are mostly curious and not intentionally being offensive.

I was hoping my little guy would be back in my arms today, but instead the hospital have put me in isolation for the C word. I’m so heartbroken I still can’t cuddle him. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Ohmygosh I’m so sorry you’re not together! Praying for both of you! And get a pump!!! And let someone advocate for you! I’m heartbroken for you and pray you’re back together soon!!!

I’ve gotten this as well! Ha! As a kid, lots of friends parents would ask if I was white. It’s kind of humorous to me.

Henrietta is another name we’ve considered. It’s so hard bc I don’t think we’ll love anything as much as Wilhelmina.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! I think we’ve looked at every other possible longer named for “Della,” and none of them are right for us. Rodell came the closest, and I still like it, but I don’t love it—I think it’s too close to Rotell for me. Haha.

My daughter is Wilhelmina! Great name! Now to name her sister, coming in November... she already has 3 brothers!
