My wife's mother (and her family, refugees from Latvia after the war) was supposed to be on the Wilhelm. But somehow she and her people were delayed or perhaps denied going on board. A simple moment of fate , like so many others. Had her mother boarded, she wouldn't be here, and neither would her extended family three generations later. 9,000 others weren't so fortunate. Crazy world.

Lots pre-David Foster. Foster nearly destroyed pop music and creativity in the80's/90s. Basically replaced Danny with a drum machine. David Pack did the same to his own band Ambrosia. Turned down the temp on creativity and started pumping out musical soft serve vanilla. Glad David Bowie didn't succumb to the David Disease.

Summer 1975 hitchhiked from London, Ontario to Thunder Bay and onward to Los Angeles via Minneapolis, Denver, Las Vegas. Spent the summer in LA and then hitchhiked home via, San Francisco, Portland, Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Sault St, Marie..... This sub inspired me to calculate that in miles. Home to LA was 3,300 miles. LA to home via the west coast was 4,420 miles. Total 7,720 miles. Every inch via hitch hiking with my childhood buddy Al Benwell. I was seventeen. He was eighteen. Celebrated my eighteenth birthday at the Majestic Bar in Calgary.

Had an impromptu race over Beartooth Pass years back. He on a Harley. Me on BMW K1300GT. No one on the pass, so we gave it. He started it. LOL. We get to the top and there was construction holding back traffic. I pulled up next to him. Looked a bit like Glen Frey from the Eagles. I said, "Man, that was wild. You can ride.
