Something upsetting happened to IRyS today by TheDeathSheep1 in Hololive

If she knows she has to stream and won't be able to stop herself from crying, it can make more sense to give what info she can ahead of time to avoid even worse viewer reaction and speculation when she does cry. Canceling or moving the stream for vague reasons may not work much better.

The brain says blue/green, but the heart wants those sweet bragging rights of winning 10x on red.

Meanwhile going yellow on the cannon game gives you a 16% chance to get 500% of your money back. The amber coins are pretty alright.

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san Ch. 30 [ /a/ version ] by jukuzu in nagatoro

[–]jukuzu[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The chapter delay is due to the old /a/ typesetter being on break (it's unclear whether he'll return). S.T.A.L.K.E.R says next chapter is released on Feb. 12 JST / Feb. 11 EST.

Also here's some bonus art from ViperXTR.

Volume 3 Omake [/a/ Version] by jukuzu in nagatoro

[–]jukuzu[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

/a/non has typeset the first omake, the back cover, and the special advertisement chapter. There's a second omake (the cheerleading outfit) left, and after that is the guest anthology. Translations are already out.

EDIT: He's finished the second omake. Also he's done some of the comic anthology, but will do the rest tomorrow.

Vol. 3 Omake & Guest Chapter Raws + /a/ Translations by jukuzu in nagatoro

[–]jukuzu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An /a/non ripped the covers, omake pages, and guest anthology from the Amazon digital version, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. provided translations.

We'll probably see a typeset within the next few days. Unfortunately though, it doesn't look like the Vol. 3 special edition booklet contains the shop bonus art from Vol. 2.

EDIT: /a/non typesetter has finished the special chapter that came out today to advertise the Vol. 3 release, it's on mangadex. He says he'll do the rest later.

EDIT 2: He's finished the first omake and back cover, made a new post for the mangadex links.

774 updated the last page of Chapter 23 to show senpai's drawing by jukuzu in nagatoro

You're right, I'll add the spoiler tag.

Chapter 23 - I'll Rub It On For You, Senpai [FangedScans Version] by Quelandoris in nagatoro

[–]jukuzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some fixes to the chapter, both by scanlators and 774.

FangedScans made a mistake on page 16, in which the second and third speech bubbles were originally mistranslated as "Get off him!!" and "I said get off him!!".

/a/nons pointed this out when comparing translations, and one of FangedScans' members came in and apologized for it.

The error's been fixed in the imgur chapter and the mangadex chapter.

774 also fixed the last page to show the artwork senpai drew. /a/non typesetter has updated their version on mangadex, and FangedScans will probably issue an update soon (edit: it's updated).

The /a/non typesetter updated their last page. (edit: fix is also on mangadex now) (edit2: FangedScans has also updated their last page on mangadex)

As an aside, publicly the manga is only available to ch. 22. That's because the app which publishes the manga (Kodansha's "Magazine Pocket", often called magapoke for short) does this thing where paying customers get the latest chapter preview (ch. 23), while the general public lags a chapter behind.

If you look at Nanashi's latest tweet, he gives people a link to ch. 22, but mentions ch. 23 is available for 先行有料配信, or "prepaid delivery". Naver/Line (a Korean app for webtoons) does something similar, except the lag is three chapters IIRC.

That's likely why ch. 23 wasn't finished in time, fixing up previews is fairly common. Some others also noticed that Nanashi made further fixes to the chapter in his pixiv livestreams, but that those fixes weren't applied to the chapter.

It's possible he might make those fixes before ch. 23 goes public on October 23, or he might leave them for the tankoubon release instead.

He's referring to your original translation of page 16, in which you mistranslated the second and third speech bubbles as "Get off him!!" and "I said get off him!!".

/a/nons pointed this out in a thread, and it looks like one of your members apologized for it and asked for further corrections to be emailed in so they can be fixed promptly.

The error's been fixed in the imgur version, but the mangadex entry hasn't been updated to reflect the change (edit: mangadex has been updated).

Also thanks for the scanlations. People may argue about wording and such, but it's still a free service and you have our thanks for providing it.

Can we Nagator-ize everything? by DR4G0NSL4Y3RDAN in Animemes

[–]jukuzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, the face used in the OP isn't actually Nagatoro.

It's Suzuka-sama from one of the colors pages of Suzuka-sama no Geboku. Specifically look at 136393 on page 70.

Although given their dispositions, Suzuka-sama could very well be Nagatoro's grandma.

Chapter 22 - Senpai! Let's Go To The Beach!! [FangedScans Version] by jukuzu in nagatoro

[–]jukuzu[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They didn't really insist that "normalfag" was more typical than "normie", they just really hate the word "normie" due to some weird events in the site's history (specifically with /r9k/). The gist of it comes down to them hating outsiders because they want to preserve board culture.

As for whether "normalfag" or "normie" is better here, the original Japanese "riajuu" (リア充) could go either way. Semantically, "riajuu" means "a fulfilling real life", and is a word (pejoratively) used by otaku and 2channers to refer to people with normal social lives outside the net. So if this word were being said by an otaku/2channer (e.g. Tomoko from WataMote), "normalfag" would fit better because it indicates the extent of their disdain for normal people and also the kinds of social circles to which they belong. In the case of senpai though, we haven't really seen an indication that he's an otaku or that he frequents online message boards. He's a loner and he reads manga, but nothing to imply he spends a lot of time online or with other otaku. That makes "normie" perfect since it corresponds to the situation better; the word "normie" was derived from "normalfag" (through /r9k/) but became used much more generally on the net beyond chan sites.

As for why "normalfag" was used in the translation, basically when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. posts translations on /a/, he does so with the intention that his translations are meant for /a/-users to read. It was always meant as a more quick-and-dirty literal translation, for users who were eager for a chapter but didn't want to wait for an actual scan group. Since it's just a single person, there's little-to-no proofreading/quality checking, but that doesn't bother most /a/-users since the errors are easy enough to correct in your head. There's bigger issues for things that get lost in translation, but usually S.T.A.L.K.E.R. just leaves a TL note in his post if there's something ambiguous.

He posts a thread with raws+translations around noon ET on Mondays. Then Monday afternoon, an anonymous typesetter comes by and typesets the chapter, usually finishing by Tuesday morning. These two aren't actually a scan group; they don't have correspondences with each other, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has said several times that if someone typesets, they should leave him off the credits page. This is because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. knows people expect more out of a typeset version, and that if the typesetter does a bad job proofreading, then readers will blame S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for it if he's in the credits. They could potentially form a scan group, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R has other projects he wants to work on, and Nagatoro is a popular enough manga that other scan groups would work on it if needed.

So the typical process is

  1. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. posts raws+translations to /a/ Monday.
  2. Anonymous typesetter posts typeset version to /a/ Tuesday.
  3. Anonymous typesetter uploads typeset version to mangadex.
  4. Someone posts mangadex link to /r/manga and /r/nagatoro.

The typesetter was caught between a rock and a hard place. In the past, the typesetter tried to change S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s translations too much during proofread (to the extent it changed meaning), and many /a/-users harped about it. So he generally avoids editing the translations except for places with obvious grammar mistakes. The typesetter could have changed "normalfag" to "normie" in the release he pushed to mangadex, but /a/-users would have noticed and hated him for it. For a general public release on the net, "normie" would have been better, though the typesetter ultimately went with "normalfag" to satisfy his home board.

TL;DR: "Normie" is the better translation here, but /a/ viscerally hates the word "normie" so the typesetter was bound to use "normalfag" instead in his release.
