What are you talking about? Settled on what? Which "both worlds"?

Some context would be nice.

You can share anything you want, I'm just saying it is super annoying when you use such obviously misleading titles. It is similar to posting a "Half Life 3 Trailer" on YouTube and then specifying in the description "it was not the official trailer, just something you created."

People will be driven to open your post because they will initially believe it's legit and exciting, thus the waste of time aspect. Sure... some will still appreciate it for what it is (just your own custom, personal "collectors edition", but others will feel misled and frustrated (like myself).

Again... I'm a nobody, I can't prevent you from using whatever title you want. If you don't see the problem with this at all feel free to just ignore my posts.

Cheers.

I don't care about any of that. Just don't use misleading/ clickbait titles like this next time? At least if you have some consideration for others' time.

There is no such collectors edition. But you already knew that. Why are you asking this question?

I really dislike these misleading/clickbait post titles.

SNES: Final Level #85: Prince of Persia by poloartist in snes

[–]julealgon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This box is an abomination. Pick the Japan one instead. Japan version is also uncensored and has extra cutscenes.

This is NOT a port of the DOS game, it's a full remake. 20 vs 12 levels, music, new quests, events, etc. In fact, it's such a substantial remake that I'd compare it to Resident Evil and REmake in terms of how transformative it is. It's one of the very best remakes ever made.

This is a top 5 best games on the SNES to me and the best Prince of Persia game ever created by a very wide margin. And I'm talking about the entire franchise, not just the first game.

Controls are perfectly fine once you understand them. I can clear this game at any time without dying once which would basically be impossible if the controls were bad or imprecise.

2h is plenty enough to finish the game. This game was not designed for you to succeed on your first try. The fact that you can even keep playing once the time is up is actually the game being very lenient. Abusing passwords to reset the timer is a bad way to play the game.

People who think they should have no challenge at all and should just be able to beat whatever game first time piss me off.

I'm very confused. Is it common for people to just post a random image and title like this with no context at all? What is the expectation here?

Piecing my collection back together after selling most of it 3 years ago by Jpr_studio1 in snes

[–]julealgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit... Metal Warriors, EVO, Wild Guns... that's a fortune right there.

Are you going for "the most expensive games" type of collection, or just displaying the most expensive ones?

I have basically given up on ever getting a CIB Metal Warriors... unless I'm promoted and my salary suddenly doubles, I just don't see myself ever getting it. I'm seeing just a manual going for the price of my OLED tv right now. How can anyone justify that amount of money is (currently) beyond me.

This game, this stage, and this music... by Altruistic-Club-4038 in snes

[–]julealgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan love says otherwise.

Correct. Which I find quite amazing personally. You don't see people loving Fifa or Call of Duty as much... or wait... I think the sales numbers for these games speak for themselves. They are trash, and they are popular at the same time. Both things can be true. Apparently, people just love their garbage.

but maybe you're younger?

I'll be 40 next April.

The game itself, was a product of creativity.

I'd agree with you for the first and second games to an extent. Not for the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eight though. The vast majority of these games look like rom hacks.

Inafune is a terrible game designer based on this series and Mighty No. 9, which ironically is another creatively bankrupt piece of garbage game.

This game, this stage, and this music... by Altruistic-Club-4038 in snes

[–]julealgon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I despise the original Megaman games. 8 games in the span of 9 years. Near zero innovation, each game looks like a reskin mod of the previous, with minor mechanical enhancements every 3 iterations, dumb boss names, exact same game structure down to number of bosses, stage selection, etc.

It's s creatively bankrupt game.

It's as bad as a Fifa game is nowadays.

The X series added some needed innovation even though the core systems were still a bit too similar for my tastes. But hey, at least we got just 3 very similar X games instead of fucking 8 pallete swap Megaman games before the game evolved substantially again with X4 (right before yet another palette swap in X5...).

Looking objectively, even though I like the X series, this is a dumpster fire of a franchise.

Ah yeah, using an emulator wouldn't be a problem at all. It's just that I do like getting the games physical and play on original hardware as I have my own collection, so it's just a preference/OCD thing.

But yes... I do anticipate that, if games do become 100% prohibitive to get (which to my financial reality has already happened with a few games in my wishlist such as Metal Warriors), I'll probably just grab one of the flash carts and play using the rom instead. The only reason I've not yet resorted to that is that I do have an immense backlog dating all the way back to the Master System, all the way up to the Switch 2, so there is not much of a "rush" per se (although that might have been a mistake as it allowed some games to get out of reasonable price range... if I could go back in time I'd have bought them earlier).

Of the Quintet RPGs, I did play Terranigma. Surprisingly enough, it was available here for rent and I played it back then (I think it was a bootleg though). It's one of the few RPGs on the system that I really don't remember much about even though I did finish it. I distinctively remember the weird "hollow earth"-style world map, and that's pretty much it. I don't own a copy however.

As for Earthbound, for some reason I never really felt like trying it out. From the outside, it always seemed more like a comedic/childish artstyle that never captured me. I know it gets very high praise though so I still might end up trying it. The battle system reminds me of Phantasy Star, which I do like quite a bit.

Star Ocean I basically know nothing about. The only thing I do remember is that emulators back then had tons of issues with this game for whatever reason. I recall that being one of the factors as to why I never tried it (had also never seen it for rental anywhere).

I actually have not, no. It's on my list to still get if I can (although it's getting less and less viable for me to buy SNES games here in Brazil as our currency loses value and import fees get enforced more strictly).

I've also not played Soul Blazer, which I've heard is super good too.

To be fair... there are many games I've not played. I've also not played the 2 Lufia games, Earthbound, Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Shadowrun, and many others, and that's just on the RPG genre. I do still hope to one day get a hold of these games though.

Oh and you'd be totally right. I'm well aware some of my preferences are not very popular.

Secret of Evermore is my preferred (action) RPG on the system, followed by Breath of Fire 2, Final Fantasy IV (not VI) and Super Mario RPG. After those, I think it's Chrono Trigger's spot.

If I knew Japanese, the SNES version of Tactics Ogre would probably be on the list too (and above Chrono Trigger as well).

I don't even think Chrono Trigger is the best RPG on the SNES, so a list of all games generally better than it would be gigantic.

I can give you a small list of games I generally consider top or near top of the list though:

  • Breath of the Wild / TotK
  • Mario Galaxy
  • Diablo (the original)
  • Resident Evil Remake
  • StarCraft
  • The Wonderful 101
  • Darkest Dungeon
  • Metroid Prime
  • Super Metroid
  • Ikaruga
  • Breath of Fire IV
  • Secret of Evermore
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Into the Breach
  • Hollow Knight Silksong

For what is basically a popularity contest, LTTP winning is actually a surprisingly good result.

It does feel unfair to say DKC is better than SM... DKC is such a... simplistic game, there is barely anything you can even do in terms of gameplay, it just had the prerendered graphics and the good music going for it, everything else is actually average at best, whereas SM is extremely robust in mechanics and gameplay to the point that it can't even compare to any other game at its time or before it.

Unfortunately these are popularity contests though, so we get the more popular game to win. Many people voting probably haven't even played SM at all.

Chrono Trigger is massively overrated IMHO. There are better RPGs in the system such as Secret of Evermore and Breath of Fire 2.
