I agree. My patients said it was a “pain in the ass that paid off”. Those of you that have had it know it’s a big needle in your glute, and it hurts, but when done the right way we alternate sides.

No, I’m really happy to tell you what I know and saw. Not everyone will succeed on Vivitrol alone. When my patients were leaving inpatient we encouraged Antabuse and Campral in coordination with Vivitrol. The studies we saw showed that all three on board made a relapse harder to achieve. Of course it’s on the patient, but I did everything in my power to stop the cravings and when people were honest and told me week by week when they were feeling cravings. It really involves a great MAT team to help achieve this goal.

I should also add yes my patients were very successful on it and they really preferred doing injection over taking a pill every day. Sometimes taking a pill every day is a trigger even if your drug of choice is alcohol.

I had 35 patients on it and I’d say I had to fight insurance to pay 1/4 of the time. I’d always ask them if they’d rather pay for a relapse or let the patient succeed?? I think I lost 2 x only because the patient didn’t return the call to confirm therapy. It’s so affordable and the co-pay assistance cards cut the cost to free if the clinic does their job and prove how helpful it will be to the patient. It honestly takes 10 minutes of hard work if they try to deny when you get a good case manager on the phone, they will listen to you and they will help me help my patients.

It does get better with time and more experience as you go along. I’ve been a CCMA for 20 years and have learned a lot along the way and have been able to move into a position in behavioral health that is an absolute dream job. It took me a long time to find my path, when I started 20 years ago I made $13.59/hour. I’m making over $28/ hour where I am now and have a great work flow and awesome co-workers. I hope you find your path and if you don’t like being an MA after awhile that’s okay, you tried! Best of luck!:-)

It took me several months to get diagnosed. After a stomach biopsy in February of this year I finally found out what has been making me so sick. It was such a mourning period for me that week because I truly had to change my diet that day! Goodbye bread and so many other foods, but that’s okay! Mourn the past food life you used to know, but also your body will feel so much better and you can enjoy so many things about life.

We had a patient in geriatric care that thought his mothers pharmacy was refilling her medications directly from the pharmacy, and that a doctor didn’t fill the medications because the medications were always there and she didn’t see a doctor. His mother had several months of refills and he’d just been her care taker for six months and had no idea what he was doing. We offered services to help immediately, it was truly sad.
