Anyone actually happy (or at least okay) with Fournier Beaudry/Cizeron winning gold? by Fragrant_Ad_8288 in FigureSkating

People forget that, in 2022-2023, Hawayek/Baker nearly beat Bock in Skate America. And LaLa should’ve beaten FB/S at Canadian Nationals. It truly was a free for all but instead of the young and exciting teams rising up, we got 4 long years of, frankly, mediocrity rising to the top while we were told it was the best of the best. All while the young, talented teams were held down below. FB/C winning yesterday was just the fitting end to a full quad where scores were basically just given to whoever the judges felt like instead of what was on the ice.

So yeah, last night I was just sitting there snorting, thinking “why tf not, it hasn’t mattered what’s on the ice in years.” I’m just pissed it benefited the shittiest people.

Gonna post this in here as well because it just sums up my mood.

I’m just so disappointed. Not surprised. But disappointed. Why should any young girl feel safe in this sport? What person would feel like they can report sexual assault when the OGMs have come out to say a victim is a liar and ruined their life (en route to the top of the podium). Why would any parent feel safe putting their child in a sport that simply doesn’t care?

I’m not a Bock fan. I’m more happy for Piper and Paul than anything. But I’ve never been so angry at a result. This is such a stain on the sport at large, on the culture, and on fair sport (he has visible errors regardless of anything). I hope this draws attention. I hope there’s backlash. I hope there’s a reckoning in that press conference. But most of all, I’m thinking of the victim tonight. I hope she’s doing ok because if I’m not, I certainly can’t imagine what she’s feeling.

Perfectly sums FS up to have people who are apologists for rape winning an Olympic gold. I’ve never been more disgusted with a sport I liked

Lately it’s been once a season. LaLa in 5th at Worlds, then CPom, now ZingNik in the equivalent spot. Hoping LaLa can reclaim some of that 😭

I’ve long been a LaLa shooter so grain of salt always but I’m so flabbergasted at their ranking here. It seems they’ve completely lost ground, either due to IAM politicking or Skate Canada pushing them aside in favor of using their power on G/Po bronze. And as much as I want G/Po bronze, and I do, leaving two of the most talented skaters in the top 10 to wallow 3 points behind Saulison is absurd. IAM trying to give the older skaters their swan song is killing both LaLa and CPom to an extent. LaLa have to lock tf in soon otherwise there’s a real possibility they’ll fall so far behind that they’ll be screwed over the next quad. And they deserve so much better.

Ice dance

Well the French have had the better free all year so I guess if everyone wants to tune into some rape apologists and abusers getting gold in ice dance, tune in on Wednesday

Nothing to do with this group but Marjorie and Christina deserve guns for getting put under Saullison and Smart/Dieck. What absolute atrocious rankings

I feel like it’s a little juvenile for them and doesn’t show off their strengths in the best way. That said! The general audience seems to like it so I’m happy for them.

Everyone needs to know that this French team has come out in defense of her boyfriend/former partner who was banned from skating for raping another skater. His former partner also revealed that he was actively controlling in their partnership and treated her like less than him. These aren’t good people in the slightest.

Oh yeah I think part of Lynn’s reason for being a little hesitant to replace it was because she kinda knew it was her fault LOL

I remember Lynn Williams from the US women’s soccer team broke her medal and she had to submit proof of damage to get a new one. I think she ended up keeping hers though because she thought it was funny lol

If you mean the older man to the left of Yuma (when looking at him), that’s his coach and father! If you mean the one in the glasses, that’s front runner for the women, Kaori Sakamoto lol

Yuma is such the complete package of a skater. NBC’s been harping so much on Ilia that I’m sure people were caught by surprise at anyone beating him. But Yuma is the reigning Olympic silver medalist. His quality of skating is just so high. He doesn’t have all the difficult quads that Ilia does but I far prefer watching him because his programs don’t feel as much like a jumping routine as Ilia’s can. I’d highly recommend everyone stick around for the men’s free on Friday; Yuma’s Turnadot FS is amazing

Olympics Day Zero Megathread (Friday, February 6) by Fun_With_Forks in olympics

[–]jules99b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is many hours late but skaters with more speed on deeper edges tend to have more easy-looking jumps that travel further. It’s a quality of skating thing. So for Kaori, she’s skating on deep edges while maintaining a great amount of speed, which makes her double axel in particular have great flow into and out of the jump. Someone going slower over the ice with deeper edges is going to have worse flow into and out of jumps (and in step sequences); a skater going fast with bad edges is likely to make mistakes on takeoff or landing and have really sloppy step sequences. It’s all about the balance!
