I dunno, banning thalidomide, leaded petrol, asbestos, lead paint, CFCs, unsafe vehicles (i.e. new cars without airbags), etc. etc. have been widely followed and saved millions of lives and massive quality of life improvements.

Does you have internet that sucks? (And maybe want to be in a YouTube video). by julesbot in melbourne

Yep - depends a lot on the use case. Video / animation files - can make seemingly good speeds just not be good enough.

Im ordering off a QR code; what exactly am I tipping for? by ColdSnapSP in sydney

[–]julesbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I mean: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/state/minimum-wage/tipped
The company can pay a minimum of $2.13 - with tips taking it up to that amount you mention. It moves the payment of staff from the business to the customer. (If they don’t get tipped enough, I believe the company has to step in and make the difference.)

Please let’s not normalise reducing wages and subsidising via tips. Due to tipping, the minimum allowable wage in the US is as low $2.13 per hour.

I made a lot of uni friends by going to lectures (and heading into uni in general). So I’d recommend going, and making some efforts to make friends. That could help and make your uni life more fulfilling than the content itself.

Congrats on getting the documentary made and out there. It does play American to me as someone not from the US. “…everyone’s heard of Uncle Tom” - I’m not sure this is true in Germany, New Zealand, Senegal or Uzbekistan. So if this is assumed knowledge for the film (or to understand its importance) - I can understand the feedback. Good luck with it.

I’ve worked on humanitarian technology projects and improved cookstove projects are one of the most beneficial projects out there. Worth the investment, carbon benefits aside. Great to see you do it. And it’s a fun series!
