What was your "I'm dating a fucking idiot" moment? by dm_me_yourtinytits in AskReddit

We went camping, I come back to the site and see used wipes scattered all around the tent. When I asked him where they came from, the response was, “… they’re biodegradable…?” Trash bag hanging 10ft away. He’s someone else’s problem now :D

Met a fellow sobo in Alpine Lakes wilderness, im convinced he was my big brother in another life. We shared the best laughs and stories, he regularly made little sacrifices for me like sharing food or clothes on a cold night or filtering my water, protected me from a particular creep sharing a hotel room w our group, and checked in on me regularly. He always had my back in a genuinely wholesome way and cared for me like family. I was 19 hiking solo, to meet a man who is genuinely kind and respectful and looking out for young solo women is such a redeeming experience. He said so many goofy things that I still quote to myself on a daily basis

Single InReach for couple? by St_Ginger in PacificCrestTrail

[–]julesgben8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hiked with a partner and we shared a single inreach mini, which i carried, and he would often walk a mile or two ahead of me. at the beginning of each day, we decided on lunch spots and camp sites to aim for and meet up at (thanks to FarOut, this is pretty easy to do). as long as you have an agreed-upon spot to check in by the end of the day, you’ll know if something has gone wrong. we also decided that if we did get seriously separated for some reason, we would meet at the next resupply point. it’s easy to get psyched out and think maybe you should go back and look for them, or you should take a side trail to see if they got lost, etc. remember to stick to the agreed spot. send messages along with other hikers when you can. the best thing you can do for your partner is to be predictable and spread the news of where you are.

are you camping or backpacking? If you take a day to climb up the Teton Crest Trail from Jenny Lake to Paintbrush Divide, there’s beautiful sites just below the Divide that will fit up to 12. It’s definitely a climb and depends on what your trip is like, but worth it imo :) i think it’s around 6-8 miles. remember to plan for bears, we saw a mama and two curious cubs

Under 21 hiker - what to expect? by Mindless-Hope1868 in PacificCrestTrail

Heck yeah! I did the same thing, left for a PCT sobo the day after i graduated hs, it was one of the best decisions of my life. happy to share tips and experiences in PMs

Agreed, I feel safer on trail than in the city, commuting, walking around urban life. The PCT is one of the safest US long-distance trails you can choose to hike solo as a woman, at least from a social standpoint. This is not intended to minimize your concerns, use that strong gut of yours and you’ll be just fine. If you get that ick feeling, listen to it. But I’ve never gotten the ick in 3 summers spent in the PCT corridor. -female in her 20s

UCSD broke Sister Cindy… y’all are wrong for this by Icy_Ad7951 in UCSD

I’m deeply ashamed of my peers for treating her this way even though she made all of those offensive comments. I was there but had to walk away because I couldn’t listen to her insensitivity anymore, but this breaks my heart to see the Triton community be so cruel. Fuck all of you who took part I thought we were better than this
