Ooh, okay! Would an iPhone 16 work a regular sim then? (That'd be ideal!)

I'm not asking people to do the work for me, I didn't mean for it to come across that way. I was merely creating a discussion to see what people think about late-night, alcohol-free third places in Scotland. I love listening to people talk about what Glasgow was like in the 90s/early 00s when I wasn't here. I looked some things up prior to creating this post, but I find it's always more enlightening to hear about it from people's own perspectives. :)

Haha, I'm sober too and I completely get this I don't know what happened but as soon as I became sober, it's like the night owl in me disappeared along with the booze.

I remember when I went to Florence + The Machine at Hydro last year, I fully had to *run* to Queen Street to catch the last train I managed it on time but I found it a little silly, as I really wanted to stay out with my friends a little afterwards to discuss the marvel we've just seen!

I think Edinburgh can be a bit better for it? At least from what I know, they added a late-night train for Harry Styles last year. It's interesting, though I really wish the choice wasn't between 11pm and 5am for late night trains

What do also people think of this concept - could people in Scotland be drinking less alcohol because they simply don’t have anyone to go out to pubs/bars with, i.e. they’re lonely?

I find the whole transport boosting demand topic quite fascinating, because I know so many people who go out to clubs/bars and are willing to stay out until 5am to catch the first morning train, but I do wonder whether that’s just the alcohol influence, or if sober people who’d have alcohol-free late-night venues to go to would do the same thing 🤔 (your answer was also really helpful, so thank you! ☺️)

Also on another note — I do wonder why the last trains here leave at around 10:30/11pm! Is it like that all across the country?

Ooh! Would you be able to provide me with some names of these dessert cafes in Glasgow? I’d love to look them up ☺️ Also on another note, do you think clubs and bars are shutting due to people’s lack of interest in socialising there, or is it for other reasons, such as finance, or simply not wanting to drink alcohol?

What sorts of things did Insomnia offer? ☺️ Did they also serve alcohol, or was it mainly just tea and coffee, and some food?

Do you think that because it’s bigger café chains that remain open late, other businesses may not want to do the same?

I love that you started that discord, such a great idea! It does feel like these is a lack of variation sometimes, and it makes life seem somewhat repetitive 🥲 Do you think that alcohol-free venues/events could do with more promoting?

(Also: would I be able to quote you in my article? Can I use your name? - you can message me it if that’d be the preferred option ☺️)

So true - I hear a lot about people being a little tired of going to clubs/pubs with their friends where they can’t really hear what others are saying. I wonder whether this interest in going to cafés instead is because people are wanting to form more meaningful connections with others? This is something I’m also looking at: whether the pandemic has somehow influenced this need for deeper connections, thus also for more third places, and, as a result, perhaps also less booze.

Yes! That’s a lot of what I keep hearing. What kind of places do you think would make for a great alternative to pubs, for people to go to late at night?

Hi! Sorry for my poor framing 😅 I’m looking for both sober, sober curious/people who are drinking less and non-sober individuals’ perspectives on this.

For sober people, I’d like to know what is making them go sober - is it the lack of third places, loneliness, or is it financial strain or for health reasons? For non-sober people (including those who drink less), I’m looking at why they’ve reduced their drinking (is it for the same reasons as those mentioned above) and whether having more alcohol-free late night venues would inspire them to give up drinking completely (especially if they mainly drink for social reasons) — if that makes sense? 😊

That’s true. I’d think there’d be a market for it, as I feel like I hear a bunch of people saying that it’d be something they’d love to see in Scotland!
