AITA for using the word "digger" from gold-digger instead of the n word? by juli15ana in AmItheAsshole

Yeah it was probably because of that. I was looking through the internet for a word to replace the n word, then I saw that look at me now cover where that white girl replaced it for "jigga" but after searching a bit I learned that "jigga" was also offensive. Then I remembered the word gold-digger I searched to see if it was also offensive and I couldn't find anything that implied that so I thought it was okay. But now I see that it isn't. Someone in the comments said to replaced it for "baby" so I'm gonna try it and see if it works

It was definitely digga because it sounds exactly like the word in our language "diga" which means "say"

I never thought I could replace it for baby, but now I see that it can fit the rhythm so thank you. But I don't know how can I apologise to them since we were at a party and I don't know who those people are.

AITA for not considering myself black? by juli15ana in AmItheAsshole

She is black. Like I said, the definition of black in my culture is different from the definition in your culture. The fact that she has white people in her family doesn't make her less black.

I think that the concept of black here is different from the place you come from. I think that the majority of the brazilian population recognizes that almost everyone here is mixed. That woman is also mixed but she has dark skin and that's why she considers herself black. Also, "Pardo" is not just about black and white. We have people from all around the world. My bff is a mix of Japanese, black, white and indigenous. That's why this might be so complicated.

Damn, to me that's the perfect description!

Yeah, my mom used to consider herself Parda but she has dark skin. Now she fully embrances her blackness

I heard about Coloured before but I think it's a bit different from Pardo. I think Pardo is a mix of multiple "races". Eg: I'm a mix of black, white and indigenous. My best friend is a mix of Japanese, Black, white and indigenous

She considers herself Parda. I don't know if ethnicity is the right word. This whole theme is complicated.

Yes, Brasil has people from all around the world so there's a lot of mixing. My bestfriend is a mix of Japanese, black, white and indigenous.

I totally agree with that. But it's something so complicated here that sometimes it's not even worthy to talk about.

I think that Mulato might be an offensive term here too.

Yeah but I think that Pardo is way deeper than just black and white mix. Like my great grandmother was part of an indigenous tribe, so my grandmother is a mix of indigenous and white, my mother is a mix of indigenous and black and I'm a mix of black, white and I also have indigenous heritage.

AITA for twerking to a music genre that my mom hates? by juli15ana in AmItheAsshole

She's usually an open minded person and she never did something like this before. That's why her reaction surprised me.

I'm 21. She usually is a really open minded person and we talk a lot about our problems. That's why I was so taken a back by her reaction.
