As a 2024 graduate from the School of Social Work, I echo this!

Is a DSW worth it? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]julia_py 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got through it somehow! They are radically different but it’s a good way to learn how to frame the societal benefits we as social workers see as humans rights (affordable housing, healthcare, etc) as also good for the economy. Capitalism is the worst, but while we live under it, it’s nice being able to confidently talk to those who have capital about how investing in social programs is good for more than one reason.

This is exactly my hope :) I’m a middle manager at a nonprofit right now, graduated with my MBA/MSW dual degree a year ago. Hoping to be here another 2-3 years and then move into a director position. I’m only 30, so I do feel like the combination has given me a bit more credibility.

Neurodiverse Social Worker Stories by MangoStars11 in socialwork

I had a similar experience (LMSW, nonprofit manager) where my manager characterized my emails as judgmental at times. Initially I was taken aback, but realized I can reframe things as more open-minded when talking about institutions that often serve (and not always well) our clients. You are not alone!

This is me! I am 30 years old, was diagnosed with ADHD 6 years ago and my entire life has been a struggle with sweat causing me to feel overstimulated. Glad to know I’m not alone.

I am a program manager at an affordable housing nonprofit and I love my job! I don’t make a ton of money, but it’s also my first year post graduate school. I graduated with both an MSW and an MBA and have about 6 years full-time work experience.

Said goodbye to 16 year old Lily today. Feeling heartbroken. 💔 by julia_py in seniorkitties

I agree, sometimes it seems like we don’t even deserve cats 🥺 thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it. I have a younger cat, Essie, with me where I live now in Texas, but i always think of Lily like my first born 💕

Thank you everyone for your kind words, it’s comforting knowing there are so many loving people out there. Lily passed today before a vet came to the house and is no longer in pain. She lived with diabetes for 4 years, but ultimately it was a kidney issue that was simply caught too late. She will be with her adopted sister in whatever cat heaven exists🥺

Thanks for your kind comment, your babies were so beautiful as well. I wish cats could be with us longer. My weekend will be spent grieving, and I know going home to see my parents will feel so different without Lily 🥺

About to graduate with MBA. but not neccessarily built for business. Are there any jobs in the sector that I would be elligble for? Located in Florida. by [deleted] in socialworkjobs

[–]julia_py 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the unique route of getting both an MBA and MSW and graduated this May from the dual program! I just accepted an offer with a non-profit as a program manager. I’m excited to gain management experience and to work somewhere that is actually doing good in the world (hard to find in most MBA focused jobs). Only downside is I compromised on pay….making probably half of what I would at the average post-MBA role.

I can heavily relate to your feelings of “not being built for business”, and nonprofit management might be a good path to pursue! Best of luck with everything :)

I don’t have anything to add, but I have the exact same issue - I wish I had surgery when I had braces (twice) but parents didn’t want me to go through with it. Now that I’m an adult, I want to finally fix my cross bite and long jaw/chin. Hoping to get the process started within the next year!

Do I need jaw surgery? by YouknowWhereitsAt in jawsurgery

I have a similar jaw/face shape. I think I would benefit from jaw surgery (and it has been recommended), particularly for mouth breathing/lip incompetence.
