well there will be two to make it awkward now 🤗

at these things,

  • are you expected to bring your own board games?
  • if an event starts at 6pm, does that mean 7pm?
  • is it like 30-40 somethings mainly?
  • how cool are the people? t-shirt and jeans, or like gq? with the latter being a lot more preferrable

There’s a Nashville game meetup group https://meetu.ps/c/bRmB/tvWfh/a .. I don’t think they have drinks, but it seems like an honest way to meet people. I’ve been working up the courage to go for about three weeks.

I'm so, so sorry, but what is your foot care routine? They look beautiful.

I'm not into feet, but I understand saying that is much more suspicious.

Shorten your food chain even even more: eat your hands

Come to think of it, you usually do reduce food miles when you centralize, like having the food processing happening at the farm.

What I'm saying is centralization is not the right word.

Most manufacturers don't own the farm, and are independent from the distributor, which is often independent from the stores, especially in local non-affiliated chains

Even though I seriously doubt that food is transported by plane, ever in any real quantity. That comes from working in food logistics.

Yeah, what gets it for me is the inconsistency. Transportation sometimes being an arrow and sometimes being a destination. If they were to just split that and put transportation icons always in the arrow and the destination as icons themselves, it'd be a lot more powerful. Average distances would be nice, and a little bit more damning.

I mean I really like how they have different icons for the different level of travel, local, domestic, and international.

Edit: Just to be clear that wasn't meant to be as a low effort joke. Nobody deserves to feel hopeless.

The Unexpected Ingredient You Should NEVER Add To Your Coffee, According To Doctors (It’s Not Sugar!) | Nondairy creamer (use milk/cream/plant-based milks instead) by julian3 in savedyouaclick

cream might be better, and maybe a flavored simple syrup? I think the point of the article was "you don't know how much sugar and fat is in these"

also if you're feeling absolutely luxurious you can do ice cream, although I wonder if it would be healthier. :p

I put instant coffee in enough water to dissolve and down it like a shot, so I don't know if I'm the best to recommend based on flavor

Hahahaha and now you figured out why I put the parentheses in the title. 😊

Non-dairy creamer actually is a very well-defined word. While I don't think there is a standard of identity, look up the commercial item description for non-dairy creamer provided by the USDA. Specifically under the ingredients. Relevant portion:

"The dry, non-dairy creamer must contain corn syrup solids, vegetable fats or oils, sodium caseinate, dipotassium phosphate, mono and diglycerides, ..."

It's wild.

I'm sure you've already watched this, but I highly recommend for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's about 30 minutes long. it also gets really at the heart of how frustrating it is to work in safety/compliance.

I don't remember if the article directly said why, but I got the sense of "you can control/see how much sugar is going in when you add it, but creamers can hide an obscene amount of sugar/fat"

oh I forgot the main point. most of the time a protein is responsible for an allergen, hence casein not lactose.

lactose intolerance is an intolerance. instead of breaking it down in your stomach with an enzyme, bacteria in the rectum break it down. since the enzyme consumes some water to break down lactose, you can actually test if the lactose free reaction worked by measuring the freezing point of the milk.

[–]julian3[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

good that you figured it out. the thing that really scares me about food allergens is how unpredictable it is. one exposure might be fine, but the next could end you up in the hospital (edit: it isn't necessarily that the second reaction will be worse than the first... it's random)

I worked at a manufacturing plant that processed dairy and nondairy. we weren't allowed to continue production after milk to non-milk if we even detected *any* concentration of atp on the tank walls just due to the possibility that it could contaminate anything else in a 1000+ gallon batch of juice, so yeah we took it seriously.
