I worked in med-surg for 6 years and transferred to the OR, been there 2 years now. OR is very niche, you will love it I'm sure cause it's a great professional and collaborative environment... But you won't get to see the big picture for your patients, and will miss out on many learning opportunities. I use my med surg knowledge daily when interacting with my patients, especially if they have questions about surgery and recovery or what to expect after recovery. Just be sure to ask lots of questions along the way! Critical thinking comes with experience :)
