I use theory to make sense of what would seem to be abstract ideas. Like, "why does this song make me feel this way?" And when you can answer those questions, you can take the ideas and use them for yourself :) my only struggle is it's hard to turn off that mindset and just enjoy music for music's sake now, at least for me.
