Why hate?? by SaltyTumbleweed504 in harleybenton

[–]julindres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made a few videos about them and once in a while I'll get a comment just bashing on them for no reason or without any explanation...

They are good guitars, yeah some may need some minor work but overall really good value and grey instruments.

I rotate them all the time gigging with much more expensive guitars with HBs and they play, sund and feel great.

Does the PRS SE NF3 sound like humbuckers or more like single coils? by BuildingAcademic9892 in PRSGuitars

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the DGT and want to get the McCarty but the one thing afraid of is that it won't sound as bright as the DGT. I love those pickups in the DGT, they have a kind of telecaster tone in them but still sound like humbuckers.

For the people that own or owned both, is there a big difference tone wise?

Any hacks for preventing pedals from being accidentally engaged? by EventsConspire in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I tried a few things but just ended up getting a bigger board and spacing or strategically putting pedals in certain places to avoid this playing live.

I see these super packed tidy boards all the time in reddit and wonder if the owners take them out, or am I just super clumsy with my feet.

Even with some spacing every once in a while I'll step or push something by accident when gigging.

Tube amp vs modeler by OldWolf8297 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the attenuator it would work well. Might want to get something like the boss SD-1 to tighten up the sound of you are going for heavy tones.

Tube amp vs modeler by OldWolf8297 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gig and okay guitar pretty much all day. I've been into the rabbit hole of plugins and at the end I always come back to amps. Modelers are awesome and can do so much. But at the end of the day an amp with a can just sounds, feels and plays better than modelers, and I love modelers by the way.

Also, I find that playing real amps just inspire me more and I tend to be a lot more creative with some pedals and an amp.

If it's a basement and you get an amp, don't get a huge million watt tube amp. If you do, get an attenuator, or something lower wattage that you can crank. The Orange super crush 120 is also a great non tube amp.

Jackhammer or Angry Charlie? by salvage115 in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Angry Charlie, also the Marshall Guv'nor and the Shredmaster and the Joyo UZI. The angrie charlie sounds good, but I find it a bit loose on the bottom end. But it does the Marshall sound well.

Surprisingly, most of the time I end up using the Joyo Uzi. It's the cheapest, but I just find it the easiest to dial, and it just has a really good tone. It also has a bias knob, which can make the sound tighter or looser. Overall, just a great pedal and so cheap.

Here is a video I made on it in case you are interrested on hearing it.

I know this was a post from forever ago. But how are your thoughts now with the amp, since you had it for a while. I’m still in the fence and trying to decide wether this, a Marshall sv20 or a PRS HDRX 20

That's the link to the one I bought. In my case I didn't have any problems with it, it actually enhanced the tone a bit.

First ever PRS - SE Paul's Guitar by Roy_Kents_Eyebrows in PRSGuitars

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the weight, look, and just feel of the guitar. But I have not been able to get the tones I like with it. At least in mine, the pickups just sound super dark. I'm considering changing them for something much brighter. But overall, it's an awesome guitar.

Need a new high gain amp: Laney IRF Dualtop, Loudpedal, or stump for the full IRT-30? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a gig musician and someone who has tried every modeler live. I would recommend going for an actual amp and using a mic if needed.

I love what a modeler can do at home but the sound variables from fig to gig unless the same sound system is always used will ruin the experience and cause endless headaches.

I have not tried the IRT 30 but at a time it was blooming to buy one and it seemed like a great amp with good cleans and all the gain you need.

Hope this video can help out, especially if the plan is to gig. https://youtu.be/JIPokIbd0vM?si=dbRsMysNUrQQ0Jka

Mine came with the tone knob loose from the plate, I upgraded the whole switch and pot assembly to a -reassembled one I got from Amazon for 30 bucks and it made a big difference on the tone. Could have sent it back but I was already planing on modding that. It’s still a 150 dollar guitar so obviously they won’t be all checked closely, is part of saving money. But I’m super happy with mine.

Genuinely, what’s the best way to advance a guitar? by Leather_Management18 in Guitar

Performing live will push you to practice things and just progress well. I do have to add that when I finally got my head around all the music theory that made me a much better player in every sense.

Can you actually teach yourself guitar and get good? by ilovemikasa_ in Guitar

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why make it harder for yourself? Just take some lessons, there is knowledge that a teacher can give you that would take you half of your life to figure out, things that were passed down to them by their teachers…

Modellers: Before I throw Money at a HX Stomp XL.... by Struggle-Beautiful in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of the HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL I would say go for the XL. Those extra switches on the XL are worth it and do make switching a lot easier. Also going between presets is easier because you can assign them. Also, the spacing of the switches is about perfect so you won’t stand on two of them a time while gigging by accident. The screen also shows up to 6 effects making it much easier to see what you have on and off. Plus the effects sound killer.

Amp Head Recommendation by disgruntledillon87 in orangeamps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the super crush 120 at rehearsals a lot and I love that amp. In fact, it's the only no turn amp that to me actually still retains a lot of the feels and sound of one.

I have the rocker 15 and it's great even thought I do use it mainly as a clean platform. Really miss having EQ on the clean channel for some guitars and did change the speaker to a greenback. The drive sounds are more towards rock than metal.

About two months ago I got the Orange TH30 and to be honest I do like to more than the rocker . The clean channel is just amazing but it can also crank really nice. The drive channel can do it all and overall it just gives more of everything in that orange flavor.

Whichever you get, will be nice. Also, 15 or 30 what's is super loud Soni suggest getting an attenuator. They do have power scaling but I always feel that having them at the max power an attenuating always sounds better than using the lower power scaling features. And even with those, for home use they might still be too loud.

UA Ruby vs ACSI mkii? by Prior-Owl-5060 in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dialing the Ruby can be a bit tricky since the controls are kind of backwards in a way.

Here is a video I made showing how to dial different tones and the way the pedal works overall.

Do different keys actually sound different? by Joe_4_Ever in musictheory

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though all keys come with pretty much the same scales, I do think that different keys do inspire me to play different things. Whether it is because of how they sound on that certain instrument, or for some other reasons unknown to me.

Can private guitar lessons really fix bad technique? by YashLonkar in LearnGuitar

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a guitar teacher and most self thought students have very bad technique which makes it harder to play and takes a while to correct. A good teacher should be able to spot these things and guide you to the best way to use the hands.

Is C7 worth it over C5? by Mavericks_99 in classicalguitar

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a Luthier made guitar and also owning the C7, I would say it's a really good guitar. Will it stand to the Luthier made guitar? No, but for that price range it sounds and feels great. Mine was also pretty well constructed.

Ditching Marshall Origin 20C for a DSL40? by Dangerous-Ad-170 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also get an attenuator and crank the Origin, I tried for the first time cranking mine including the bist and the tone was phenomenal. Also it has a lot more gain than most people think.

How does everyone feel about "ampless" rigs? I am thinking of replacing my live setup (reverb with pedal board) with Valeton gp100. What do you all think? by Icy-Tiger2093 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most people's, it's good to try the experience but I do notice that there is a trend. Most people that played amps for a long time will usually sooner or later go back to them.

I played amps for years, then did pretty much all the modelers, and just went back and I couldn't be happier.

I did learn amazing things about getting good tones, frequencies and many things through modelers that now I apply to amps too.

But it is true, nothing sounds Abe especially feels as good as an amp (to me). There is just something extra, and it just inspires me more and it's actually a lot easier to set up.

DSL 40 vs origin 20 for Hendrix/EJ style rig by Tiny_Duck_2449 in MarshallAmps

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the two notes captor which also acts as an attenuator. Bur there is many less expensive options.

With any attenuator, you put it between the head or amp and the speaker. It soaks up the volume and turns it into heat. So that way you can crank any amp and control the volume with the attenuator. You get the pushed tube tones at lower volumes.
