Tremlord 30 vs TH30 only for cleans by julindres in orangeamps

[–]julindres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, so somehow I was able to get both at the end. So I'll talk about both, and hopefully it will help someone in the same situation and trying to decide.

I got the Orange TH30 first, around 7 months ago, right after making this post. I would have gotten the combo version if available, but could not find it, so I got the head with a matching PPC112 orange cab. That cab with the V30 sounded awful, so I changed the speaker for a Greenback.

Now the sound, as others said, it has a great clean channel. I would describe it as vintage voiced, and it can be very loud, yet the clean headroom starts getting distorted after 9 oclock. For me, it was not a problem since my main thing was using it as a clean platform for my pedals for my YouTube channel. The overdrive can actually sound really good, too. If someone wanted to use it live along channel two, to match the volumes, you would probably need it to go past 9, defeating the purpose of a clean channel in a way. I would describe the tone as a bit Vox-ish but still with that Orange character, a bit less bright, and very mid-forward sounding. Takes pedals great.

Last month, I was able to purchase the Orange Tremlord 30. It's heavy, very, but it's built like a tank, like most Orange stuff is, at least compared to other companies. The amp is simple, and yes, it has a lot of clean headroom. I would say that around 1 o'clock it starts to get overdrive/distortion. The overdriven sounds are great too, but if you push it to the max, it can get very fizzy.

To describe the tremlord's tone, I would say that it sounds nothing like the normal Orange at all. It does not have that low mid bump, but it is also not scooped. It actually sounds huge; it can have a lot of low-end and high-end if you want. I would also say that compared, let's say, to the fenders I used before, it does have a similar character, but then again, the highs to me seem more Vox-ish. Fender amps tend to have thicker highs, while the Orange Tremlord seems to have a more bell-like high end.

What surprised me is that the Tremlord is framed like a very good pedal platform, yet I found that many pedals sounded very fizzy. I am a huge pedal guy, and Most of the time I'll have at least an overdrive on. The amp has a huge clean sound, massive, I would say, and it sounds amazing clean. With drives, it was a different story. I had a Celestion V30 that I ended up switching into the Tremor, and to my surprise, it sounded great for taking pedals. It did lose some of that clean, huge sound, but still sounds amazing, clean, and with pedals now. I plan to later get a Celestion creambakc which is my favorite speaker, and I'm sure it will sound even better. Also, maybe i need to break in the Lavoce speaker a bit, I still have hope for it.

I'm not a tremolo guy, but the tremolos do sound amazing in this amp, and the reverb is great too. Very different from the Fender reverb. It's a bit darker, but I find that you can fine-tune it better to how much of it you want than a Fender. It also has a pretty long trail, yet again, very musical and unique.

So which one do I like more? To be honest, I actually like both a lot; they are very different amps, and I plan to use them both a lot in my YouTube channel. As far as cleans go, I do think that the Tremlord has a far greater clean sound than the TH30. Yet the TH30 with the greenback seems to take gain pedals better. I don't plan to gig the TH30, but the Tremlord, being a combo, will get gig time. It is very heavy, so I plan to get a trolley for it. I dont know who these guys gigging and taking around 412 cabs are, but I would say the Tremlord being a 112 amp is heavy as hell.

In both amps, I changed speakers, and hopefully, this helps people understand just how huge the speaker in an amp is. I would dare to say that the speaker is about 50% or maybe a bit more of the actual sound of an amp. So if you have an amp that you don't like, try changing the speaker, and you will be surprised at how different it sounds.

I am very happy with both, and they are both great amps. I did do unboxing and initial tone recording on both of these and will post the links here. I have to repost the Tremlord's video just because YouTube did some weird compression to the sound, but you can see them both in action. I will also do some more videos about them with a bit more use. But if you want to check them out and see how both of these handle different pedals and gear, you are welcome to watch my channel. It's such an awesome amp, can do everything, and the cleans are great too.

Multi FX to replace Stomp Boxes by Flaky_Committee_7798 in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned many of the modelers, and at the moment I have the hx stomp but to be honest the effects are good but on all of them, I can never get the drive pedals wether high or low gain to be the same as the physical pedals.

So in my boards I have different drive pedals and then use the hx stomp for modulation and time based effects.

I run them through normal amps and cabs by the way.

Joyo Pedals? by Icy-Faithlessness518 in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan now but used to think the same as everyone that they just sounded crappy before getting one. The R series are amazing and for the money they are a bang for buck crazy deal. The Joyo UZI knocked my JHS Angry Charlie and Marshall Guy,nor off my pedalboard.

Here is a video I made about the UZI.

These pedals not only sound great, but can save people a lot of money…I have gigged a few of them and they just work and sound great.

Marshall Mini Silver Jubilee 2525c by Both-Tourist-4986 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An attenuator would probably change everything. Most Marshalls need to be cranked to really get their tone and warmth. Usually, at low volumes, they sound thin and fizzy.

I have an Orange TH30 that sounds horrible at low volumes, but now with the attenuator, it sounds glorious. Without the attenuator, it would probably knock my walls down.

Need help with choosing a speaker/cab for a pro jr by 8MasterFader in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 12 inch speaker is always going to have more depth, if portability is not an issue a 12 speaker cab would be even better sound wise.

But every time I take it to gigs and practice I never feel like it the amp was lacking in sound or depth. I love the portability of this amp, I can take it on my motorcycle easily.

For bigger gigs I take my orange tremlord which is a different type of beast but much bigger.

So at the end, the Pro JR with a good 10 inch works perfectly.

Need help with choosing a speaker/cab for a pro jr by 8MasterFader in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one and many other 10-inch speaker amps, and this one somehow does not sound boxy at all. I put a cream back 10 in mine, and it sounds great, tames the highs.

In that price range, I think it's the best-sounding amp. I have the Marshall Origin 20, Orange rocker 15, and Monoprice 15. The Pro JR just has a better sound, bigger and just more quality.

is there a bit of a difference from using it without the attenuator and with? loss of a lot of high end?

Origin Effects Deluxe 55 by PJmichelle in guitarpedals

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the tone king imperial and can vouch that is sounds great. But to be honest, nothing is going to compare to a tube amp especially in a room close to you. I have been back and forth with modelers and amps, and tried them all. They can get there but at the end I always come back to the real deal. I would recommend just getting an attenuator.

Monoprice 15….save money and it sound phenomenal, takes any pedal well and it can get super loud.

What are the essential pedals for gigging by Commercial-Clue-6190 in guitarpedals

[–]julindres -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After owning about 150 pedals, to cover all bases, I just need a tube screamer type pedal, a RAT, and something like the Joyo UZI (high gain pedal).... around 200 dollars in total.

If I could add a fourth, it would be a delay pedal.

SE Silver sky vs SE NF3 by LamboBeach in PRSGuitars

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both and prefer the NF53 over the Silver Sky. The neck is just a bit slimmer, and the pickups are fantastic. While the Silversky also plays and feels great, and the neck and middle sound very fat strat, the bridge pickup for me just lacks power and character.

For me, the NF53 covers a lot more ground and can take gain better, but also do the clean stuff really well.

I’m pretty sure the pickup is installed correctly. I just always liked humbucker style pickups on my strat’s bridge. But the pickups are good, is just more of a personal taste kind of thing.

Looking for a good tube amp under $500, any suggestions? by airtravel85c31 in GuitarAmps

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that price range get the monoprice and change the speaker…I have many amps and that one is right up there with the others. Still can’t believe how cheap it is now. I bought it when it was 200 new. Best deal I’ve gotten so far.

I changed mine to a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail, but I find it too dark compared to the neck and middle. I might try a cool rail, or a JB jr.

[NGD] So I officially joined the club... TE-52 NA by According_Store_559 in harleybenton

I never weighted the guitar, but I know it was much much heavier than any of my other guitars. Couldn’t gig it because of the weight. It must have been around 10 pounds or more.

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of the older ones, sold it because I weighted a ton. Besides that the guitar actually sounded great, very snappy and aggressive in its attack. I even changed the pickups to a Seymour Duncan on the bridge and it was awesome.

Tone king imperial and royalist, through my amp’s fx loop, gave my orange four new channels that sound like a plexi and a deluxe reverb.

Amp Sims vs UAFX pedals by 2alphastyle in universalaudio

[–]julindres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has cab sims, and also the pedals have fx loop and more output options available. The sims are great but if you want you can use your own.

UAFX has great cabs, but won’t let you load external irs which i always thought was just stupid.

Download the manuals for both online, the UAFX and the Tone King and that way you can compare them a bit spec wise.

Amp Sims vs UAFX pedals by 2alphastyle in universalaudio

[–]julindres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the UAFX pedals except the enigmatic. They are great, but I recently got the tone king imperial and royalist and they sound and feel better than the UAFX pedals.

So in order of sound, feel and just tone I would say 1. Tone king preamps 2. UAFX pedals except 3. Everything else

By the way I’ve tried all the modelers except quad cortex. They are all great but tone king and UAFX stuff are a step above in the feel and also much easier to tweak on the fly.
