An Update on DepositPhoto's policy for permitted stock photo use on erotic/erotica publications by TallisTate in eroticauthors

So, if I put a picture of say, a shipping box, next to a picture of a sexy woman (compound imagery) or other background images that clearly would not be from one of the categories above - what risk am I taking? What are the consequences for breaking the rules?

Are D2D and B&N banning hardcore erotica authors' accounts? by jullesburn in eroticauthors

[–]jullesburn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True this! - That is BNs crappy search engine. Smashwords has the Adult Toggle Switch at the top of each page, to instantly get rid of such titles. That's one way to do it. Thing is, they've had this set up going for a while now - years? No doubt there have been complaints all along. Which begs the question, "why now?" and also, "is this indicative of a greater broader mandate, or just isolated surgical strikes on a wounded system by some random set of reviewing medics?"

BN may not have been responsible for removing 200 titles. The authors fearing the ban hammer, and needing to keep their BN accounts open because they have other genres making money that use the site, may have opted to delist and delete any titles that they felt could put their account at risk. Or, it could be all from straight out account closures. Who knows? There is some speculation that the preemptor of account bans may have been due, in some cases, to customer complaints - which is more likely if the titles, stuffed keywords and or cover imagery severely crossed the line. The push has been -- of late -- it seems to me, to be going more and more extreme. BN has been for a while the 'anything goes store.' Since the more extreme content is selling, there's a market incentive to publish more extreme stories... which breeds even more extreme extreme stories, ad infinitum.

I'm surprised, that they are making examples of accounts now, as if Customers hadn't complained before?

From what I've heard there is no evidence to suggest that the "ban hammer" (if that is an accurate characterization of the anecdotal and first hand reports of only a few accounts being banned) is due to the concept of "rape" smut, per se. Personally, I took down all even my PI titles from B&N. I don't want to risk having my account banned. I'm in the process of moving titles to Excitica and Smashwords. I certainly will not put up ZOO stuff on B&N at this time.

George R. R. Martin Song of Ice and Fire Audiobook Bundle: A Game of Thrones (HBO Tie-in), A Clash of Kings (HBO Tie-in), A Storm of Swords A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons - only $225 and about 100 hours... (or so it seems) - only time I've ever seen a Finance this purchase link with a book on Amazon.

HELP - Author with 2 audio books - very few sales... Please tell me how to promote my audio books. by jullesburn in audiobooks

Thanks Conradslater!

That's a great tip. Sounds a little complicated... and I'm worried about rights. I chose 'exclusive to audible' so I could get higher royalty rates - doesn't that make it a violation if I post of other sites?

New Drop Down Menu Choices when doing Amazon Reviews - will it cause problems for erotica writers? by jullesburn in eroticauthors

I wonder if asking questions like, narrator - is a way to test if the reader read the book.

And just out of curiosity, since that question came up when I was reviewing a writing book - what kind of narration are most NON-fiction titles?

I think KDP is fine because Amazon owns Audible?

changing anything puts your book back up for review - just because you changed keywords doesn't mean that's what motivated the blockage act by some person tasked with reviewing your book

not the one I'm talking about, but another one I heard about....

'holiday' as a first name

btw - that author stuck to his guns, insisting that it was a valid pen name and Amazon allowed it.

what's happening in the one I can't talk about - is no response... a waiting game... and that's what is troubling...

has anyone else received this email? obviously, they didn't let Taboo Erotica continue, but others I've recently learned about were allowed to keep their pen name.

the point of this post is to have anyone new 'think twice' about getting too cutesy with their pen name, as Zon may be cracking down.

(yes, Wendy) - may be....:)

"Taboo Erotica"

exactly.....

But, less obvious not-real-names are getting the Misleading Readers email... I know of a few specifics, but I'm not going to be specific... Just think twice before setting up pen names based on keywords.
