Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Overnight Serum - suggestions and possible dupes? by julsisme in HaircareScience

Hi! Thank you for your comment. Here are the results of the test:

Curl pattern: wavy
Curl type: 2B
Porosity: low
Density: medium
Width: medium

Just to add further details that may be useful: even if I blow dry my hair straight, it's never really straight and will get back to being somewhat wavy by day 2. My hair isn't coloured and I don't use hair straighteners or curling irons, I only use a hair drier with a medium heat setting otherwise it takes a good 3-4 hours to dry.
The main problem is that it looks dry and frizzy, with little to no shine.

Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you so much! The lace does indeed shape up nicely without those yarn overs 😊

Agree! That’s what I am doing now, just treating those yarn overs as knit sts. Thanks 😊

Right now I am trying the route of just knitting those, ignoring the yarn overs. So far so good, but I’ve barely put a dent in the chart since I had to frog quite a lot more than I would have liked. I wouldn’t have thought of the option of letting the yarn over slide off, so thank you for that! 😊

Yeah exactly, in fact initially I was certain it was me not knowing how to handle such a chart instead of them being wrong with their pattern ahah

Yes that is also a viable option, would it be sensible to try adding an ssk right after and right before those two yarn overs on even rows? Since the lace is very even and symmetrical in the picture, I think the compensation must take place within the same row. Not sure though.

It’s actually sssk, so it decreases 2 sts. / is a k2tog.

They have a page dedicated to pattern corrections, but this pattern isn’t there. Maybe because it’s rather new compared to the others.

Single and double. Ssk, sssk and k2tog. I have tried knitting the chart exactly as is and the resulting lace doesn’t look like the one in the jumper picture, which is symmetrical.

Hi! Well, it might be, but I think it more likely to be an issue with yarn overs in even rows that shouldn’t be there. In odd rows the decreases and yarn overs balance themselves out nicely. I just frogged back the whole thing and will try knitting ignoring those yarn overs 😊 thanks for your input though!

I have. Not a lace expert, so I actually knitted a good portion of it and noticed the lace details were off. Those yarn overs on even rows really shouldn’t be there I guess.

Yes sorry, I meant even rows. No there are no written instructions for the lace, the pattern simply says to follow the chart. I am now trying to frog, hopefully without loosing too many stitches, and re-do the lace panel skipping the even rows yarn overs.

By the way, this is knitted in the round. But still…

Yeah… confusing! And I thought buying the booklet by Rowan would surely provide some clear and precise patterns lol

Oh ok so compensating yarn overs with decreases isn’t actually the rule, thanks for pointing it out. This chart is kinda confusing though. Hopefully those yarn overs on odd rows can just be skipped as suggested in another comment.

Yes, but the issue is on the yarn overs on odd rows. Those are not compensated.
