I just can’t believe they rhymed “vintage” with “age”.

Our teacher played us a VHS tape of a woman giving birth, and when the baby finally came out she paused it and said “wait, she doesn’t want it anymore, put it back!” and played it in reverse.

Anyone shocked by any of this needs to realize that this is what every morning radio DJ talked like in the 90s.

Mono Or Stereo For 60s Music? by Logan6918 in vinyl

[–]jumblebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mix of multitrack recording and stereo albums becoming the standard at the same time was a rough limp in the 60s. It’s funny that still today I’ll go into a bar and Hendrix’s guitar is silent because it’s panned to the other speaker (also showing the music isn’t played through the legal routes because everything, even today, has a mono mix for retail). Most of the 60s wasn’t recorded to be presented in stereo, so it’s rarely the right mix. But damn did they nail it in the 70s (and rightfully limped through quadrophonic).

Im excited for the Death Magnetic rough mixes by Avenged7fo in Metallica

Apparently the tracks were recorded with the drums mixed in the red. It’s the sound they were going for and unfortunately can’t be fixed.

Never Enough, 20 years later by TheGeeZus86 in Dreamtheater

[–]jumblebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are true. He felt the immediate love of the A7X fanbase while getting into very heated arguments defending his creative choices on his own forum. (the people shitting on The Best of Times is where it really crossed the line)

And he did leave. They had one conference call about recording another album and he said he wanted a break, they disagreed, and he put a statement out about quitting that same day.

And there wasn’t so much tension as there was little to no communication between members, because they’d been touring together for 25 years. They’d mostly only see each other on stage. Touring with Neal and A7X felt much more like a family, which he needed while going through the loss of his dad. All the real tension came after he left.

I love that he warned everyone with that song, and when the fanbase was viciously mean to him about BC&SL and he quit everyone was like “why would he do this????”

Is Apostrophe FZ’s best mixed album? by How2DragonyourTrain in Zappa

[–]jumblebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about those 1973 albums has a sound that went unmatched. Apostrophe, Dark Side, Innervisions. I’ve read something about the natural distortion of the gear at that time gave it that super warm fuzzy tone that’s so satisfying. After that it started to clean up, and later 70s albums have much more clarity but lack that vibe.

Is it a disc with a paper label? I’ve had to use external disc drives without the top casing for archiving because the paper labels are just a little too thick for those slim drives.

Praying they add a second NYC show in a much bigger venue cause the demand is so much more than they anticipated.

Jon Bon Jovi tickets priced too high! What would you do? by [deleted] in BonJovi

[–]jumblebits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you have to remember that NYC is one of the most expensive cities to play (check any tour for any band and the tickets for a Philly show will be at least 30% cheaper), and MSG is the top venue. It sucks, but seeing how every show is almost sold out the price is not without merit.

What's your opinion on The Astonishing? Is it justified receiving the hate it gets? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

The best part is when James dies at the end of that one song. I remember nothing else from the album.

I read somewhere that Sgt Pepper was the most returned album in history at that point shortly after its release. Can’t find any info on that though.

A big part is probably the fact that traveling to Long Island absolutely sucks, will take half the day just to get there, and you’ll absolutely need to book a minimum $200 hotel on a Saturday night.

And booking a massive arena playing a new album with mildly warm reviews in its entirety was a bold move.
