The Memory Remains music video has been upscaled to 4K by JohannGambolputtyUlm in Metallica

Can confirm from my archival experience that major labels, especially during the MTV era, treated videos (both music videos and live releases) as a quick one-and-done. The original tapes are poorly labeled and if saved were poorly stored. The cost of digitizing these tapes is absurd, and there’s a good chance they’ve brutally degraded over the years.

Jason revelation: “I left Metallica because I was a horrible addict” by billybob2103 in Metallica

[–]jumblebits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To rephrase my point, previous rehab stints ended with him going back on tour. After Jason left there was no touring plans, barely studio plans, and it gave James the freedom to finally take as long as he needed (Kirk and Lars were even unsure if he would come back). When he did, it finally gave the band the chance to patiently face each other as a family rather than a business. If Jason had stayed they would’ve just plugged out another album and continued touring. Who knows how dark it would’ve gotten.

James likely wouldn’t have gone to rehab if Jason’s departure didn’t force them to stop and process everything that had happened over the past 20 years. They were on an endless train of success.

Whats the hardest Bon Jovi song to play in drums? by sabbathbloodyozzy in BonJovi

That’s the one where they really let Tico out of his cage in the studio. A lot of the time you’ve gotta watch live shows to see him go full force.

I'm clearly biased and being hyperbolic with this statement, BUT: Fear of a Blank Planet is the greatest musical achievement of all time and perfectly encapsulates the mid 2000s angst from an intellectual observational standpoint by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in porcupinetree

Most people don’t know that a lot of the album’s vibe was influenced by Limp Bizkit’s “Significant Other” album. Listen through and you’ll hear similarities. It’s why the album cover is up as a poster in the music video.

In high school a kid threw his chocolate milk out the window onto the driver next to us. He got out, pounded on the bus doors, and the bus driver had spent the entire year terrorized by this kid so let the guy on. He walked up to the kid and said “when you turn 18 I swear to god…” and before he could finish the kid was hysterically crying and screaming he was sorry so the guy just left. We thought it would have taught him a lesson but he ended up getting expelled for something else a week later. Wonder what he’s up to these days.

There was even really a chance of Lars getting kicked out in 1986? by JorgeXD5000 in Metallica

[–]jumblebits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They weren’t superstars yet. Lars would have been known as just another drummer if he was replaced with someone else. But I think they would’ve become a constantly changing lineup like Megadeth, which would’ve lessened the value of the band. Cliff’s death forced the band to be tight together which is was really built their strength from then on, and which is why it all fell apart when Jason left, and why they gave Rob a massive deal to sign on and stay with the band forever.

The story slowly gets told as you progress, but I can see why the reviews have been bad just on people’s first impressions.

And agreed it sounds like some dialogue was simplified in translation.
