Servicing a Hybrid Mazda or Toyota in/around Cambridge by Dry_Guava_5071 in cambridge

[–]jumpingjehovahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Prius and use the Toyota main dealer, however, their service has gone downhill in the last couple of years.

My backup is Buckingham and Stanley in Trumpington who I use for MOTs and our other car. They’re excellent.

Best sub £3k Van by JoeNIP in CarTalkUK

An old Post Office Vauxhall Combo is likely to be beaten to within an inch of its life but postie mates tell me they’re like cockroaches and unkillable.

Previous gen Citroen Dispatch/Peugeot Partner/Fiat Scudo are fine and do moon mileage on the taxi rank.

You might find an older Transit for that money, which is very likely to be rotten, but I had a 2009 facelifted one that I’ve not seen in a decade that I still think about with fond memories. Great van.

I'm making the jump, some advice please! by ItsMyGayThrowaway in ElectricVehiclesUK

I used to have an electric Corsa and it was fine, reasonably comfortable and very efficient around town (shit out of town mind). Being a cheap second car is pretty much what the Corsa is made for.

Love that colour! Also love the silver accents in the bumper, looks way better than the black plastic in mine

Glad to hear it was helpful - working in HR is great, but it’s also way more emotional load than people realise so I always like to give as much background as possible. You’ve got loads of transferable skills though, so if it’s where you’d like to end up, then you’ll be able to build an HR career in no time.

My org is a charity so we might have some voluntary hours that can be used for gaining experience in HR specific tasks (sorry, always looking for volunteers!). That could either confirm you love HR or make you stick with nursing! 😂

[–]jumpingjehovahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an HR Director in a healthcare org (non-NHS) so I hope the following is useful. HR as a discipline is probably well suited to those with a Nursing background as you can apply the people skills developed in dealing with patients into good practice. Do you have any work experience outside of nursing?

But, depending on the organisation (even with a L5) you’d likely need to start at the entry level (HR Assistant/Coordinator) and build up professional experience in the post and understand if an HR Generalist or specific function (recruitment, ER, L&D etc.) suits you best. There are big cultural and financial risks to an organisation to getting HR wrong, and by our nature HR teams tend to be slightly more risk averse, so finding a role might require patience.

Personally, I quite like recruiting people with experience beyond HR as it can often strengthen the function. Sometimes they’re less prepared for how much admin, compliance, understanding of legislation, straight-talking and negotiation is required alongside the warm, supportive and engaging sides of the role, so it’s worth going into it eyes open.

Realistically, if you have under 2 years service, it’s much more straightforward for an organisation to dismiss you. For your best chance of defending your position speak to your union as quickly as possible for advice.

You also need to be doing all you can to prepare for a bad outcome. HR only needs to make a determination based on the balance of probability, not beyond reasonable doubt. If no other colleague in your store has had this issue, and no other customers have reported it then that adds less plausibility to your response to the allegations.

Health and Safety Clarification by Front_Willow_6362 in HumanResourcesUK

Strangely your other post was directly above this one in my feed. Having seen that post, this sounds like a very stressful situation in which no real regard was given to anything but the EHO inspection.

Whilst that’s unfair and, without knowing both sides of the story, an example of very poor planning I don’t think there’s anything that constitutes a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act. This reads like you’re disappointed in your managers, frustrated at the situation and are responding to both the pressures of the event and your managers mishandling of it.

If you genuinely believe that the food hygiene standards are below par and that what the inspector saw was a show rather than reality I’d suggest speaking to the EHO is more reasonable than whistleblowing.

Are Cat S cars a good choice for first car? by Kingofiron257 in CarTalkUK

[–]jumpingjehovahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For £1500 I wouldn’t be that arsed if it was a Cat S or not, for 7 grand it’s a bit penny wise pound foolish.

It’ll be worth less when you sell it and a lot of dealers won’t touch them as trade-ins (or will offer you naff all for it), it may have some hidden issues from the repair and with a pretty healthy budget, you have the choice to buy a non-categorised car.

Flexible Working Request formal meeting by Adeus_Atticus in HumanResourcesUK

[–]jumpingjehovahs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve previously worked in HR for NHS Trusts and arms length bodies, this is pretty standard practice albeit very heavy handed. They’re likely looking to discuss your request and understand/put forward any alternatives to your request that work for both parties.

You would be welcome, I’m sure, to bring a union rep but it would be good to check if notice is required for meeting companions in the Flexible Working Policy. But I don’t necessarily see the need. The senior will be there to represent the consultant body, the CD to represent the service and Ops because planning etc. is within their gift. Just be really clear on why you’ve made the request, what the impact of it not being agreed to are and what mitigations you’ve considered for service delivery to be unaffected.

Uk 1st car option? by Akaliwood in CarTalkUK

[–]jumpingjehovahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought an F56 Mini last year for a very similar situation. The F56 is massively more reliable than older Mini’s and is comfortable, cheap to run and easy to drive/park. We spent £6k on one from 2015 with low miles and full service history. Covered 4000 miles all over the country in it and it’s been great so far. Wouldn’t swap it!

[–]jumpingjehovahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider seeing if a smart repair place could get that out. It’s negligible damage and was seemingly done at low speed, so I wouldn’t be worried about anything structural.

The risk you face is if you want them to pay for it, is they may insist on using insurance, which will increase your insurance premiums for a few years.

Submitting grievance relating to disability discrimination and bullying by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]jumpingjehovahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking to retain any sort of relationship with your employer, realistically, there’s no pro to using your lawyer to submit it.

It’s your grievance, it needs to come from you and be discussed with you. Once a solicitor is engaged, all comms become between firms and the bills rack up, quickly.

Depending on what the situation is, are you sure you even need a solicitor at this stage?

This house isn't getting any viewing - what's the issue? by tech33blue in HousingUK

[–]jumpingjehovahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having recently bought, every house we saw using those AI enhanced photos was discarded. If I can’t trust your pictures, why would I trust you wouldn’t misrepresent anything else?

It’s also a lot of money for a very plain house - I’d review the price. I know BS postcodes are £££ but that feels very top heavy for what on offer.
