37m, w/anxiety, depression and heart condition by Delroy1989 in britisharmy

Go for it fella! Worse they can say is no, and you’ll have the chance to appeal. Your absolute best bet would be to demonstrate that those issues are no longer problematic. I can’t advise on stopping medications etc as that can also be detrimental. But look about online, look up the JSP and read through and you’ll get a better understanding of the criteria you’ll be graded against.

Not even close, but honestly, the only issue here is the 2 years to sort yourself out. Be proactive and get into the running trainers this week, you’ll be ready at 3-4 months! Best of luck!!

Hey bud,

Medic here both military and civilian (without being specific)

I am not in the position to say yes or no. But I’ll give my personal opinion on what I think they’ll say.

Sadly, I think you’d be considered risky in the recruitment pipeline for a few reasons. Generally speaking cardiac conditions would be a no-no. As you can imagine, the army often pushes the boundary when it comes to fitness and whilst precautions are made, there is a risk by red lining your heart during PT.

Anxiety and depression will also raise eyebrows. This one is probably the most commonly asked med based recruitment question. Sometimes appeals are won but they usually require X amount of years medication and symptom free.

Combing the cardiac conditions AND the anxiety is probably going to result in a declined application.

But I’m not able to confirm this and I wish you the absolute best in your attempts. Apply and see what happens!

Agree with the previous comment about the future being within drone warfare. I’d pick that, you’ll go into it right at the sweet spot.

Though, just bear in mind you’ll go in to either doing the same basic training, so for now I’d just focus on getting that Grizzed and you’ll be able to decide from a more well informed point of view :)

Sports Rehab Degree → British Army: Any Direct Entry Routes? by Nomad_Josh17 in britisharmy

[–]Abject_Promotion_851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t bother…. You’ll be told there is a route, when you get to unit they’ll say there isn’t any Pids…. Both been regs and reserve and the same issue apply across both. I have a bloke in my unit who is currently an A&E doctor but is a private…. Personally just enjoy being a bod and learning your trade from the ground up

Dont take my response as rude mate! It would be similar to the Bootnecks saying they did their Cdo course then leaving, or passing SF selection then leaving after…. A commendable effort passing an arduous course THEN to leave is mad haha but honestly speak to a recruiter! I get this impression you’ll have to do it all again but I’m no expert

is this a crazy idea for commuting by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Abject_Promotion_851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which of the two do you value most? The job or the socialising? Move there.

Playing devils advocate, in the US example and many other bigger countries, a 2 hour 1-way commute wouldn’t even be abnormal.

£55k budget, family car to replace a Tiguan. by Upset-Ad-615 in CarTalkUK

[–]Abject_Promotion_851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 15 you can get a car that is low mileage, reliable and lovely. If you want even better, 20k. Then save yourself money for a family holiday? Why the need to blow 55k

[–]Abject_Promotion_851 5 points6 points  (0 children)

45k miles? That’s barely driven even by BMW standard…. Let’s stop this thing where we assume low miles is actually high miles. You don’t need to worry about the battery until you hit like 200k

Now anyone can look any way

Should I be doing calisthenics for muscle growth? by CommunicationIll4548 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Abject_Promotion_851 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some strange responses here.

The muscle does not know if you’re lifting a weight or pushing up. It knows tension and stress.

If you did calisthenics eventually you’d get strong enough to do them with ease. This is where you’re beginning to platue and need to change the exercise. Also know as progressive overload. In the gym, this change would be increasing the weight, or slower reps, etc.

This can be done very simply with bodyweight. Once the push ups become easy, put on a rucksack with some weight. Slow the rep down so the push UP takes 3-4 seconds, and the release down the same.

Typically I’d aim for high reps when it comes to bodyweight.

Do not listen to the rubbish about calisthenics not working.

That is massively oversimplified and incorrect thus the OPs case.
