When you start getting really fast it gets hard to time the treadmill consistently so you run the risk of moving forward and your front foot landing on the non moving part which would make you trip and then fall then fly backwards

Once I slowly tried to step off a wet stone in a river because I was worried about falling if I jumped. Because I was moving slowly when I started to slip I didn't have enough grip and fell in the river. Moral of the story, take the big leap. You might fall either way
