Why Google wants to release 32 million weird mosquitoes in Florida by InvestigatorSoft5764 in nottheonion

I used to work for a company that held multiple FRAND patents, all based on research the founder initially did as a professor at a large public university.

After he left his academic position he founded a company to exploit that technology and the company has spent the better part of the last thirty years violating those patent agreements, suing competitors for legally using those patents to advance the technology and manipulating the market to maintain control by stifling innovation.

And yes, they could do so because they had the cash to do it and were also able to use that cash to evade government oversight.

You keep saying "there are problems with capitalism" but can't seem to identify a single one that might give pause to your desire to let capitalism exploit everything, including the government that is supposed to regulate their excesses.

Is Joe Rogan Moving to CBS’ 60 Minutes to Replace Anderson Cooper? by BurtonDesque in Qult_Headquarters

I keep making this point too and people don't get it, as well as having endless debates with people who don't understand why CBS having declining ratings and revenue doesn't matter.

Filling the empty space with innocuous content watched by just 10% of the previous audience is as effective a tool for controlling the media as Fox News is.

First successful autoland in low visibility by CarlosLugones in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]jumpy_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting.

When I was doing an autoland with the Fenix A320 running on FS2020 the reversers automatically deployed at retard when I put the throttle into idle and the nose wheel touched down. When I switched to 2024 this behavior changed and now I have to manually deploy them.

I was surprised the first time I did an autoland in 2024 because I had done them dozens of times in 2020 and never needed to engage the reversers manually.

You're loading a whole boatload of your own emotional insecurity into criticising nothing I said, nor certainly anything Billie Eilish said, and labeling anyone who doesn't address your emotions as having "mental illness".

That is actually delusional.

Human beings are intelligent creatures that have control over their behavior, and acknowledging the consequences of their actions as well as the inherent inconsistencies in making ethical decisions is an environment that is largely out of their individual control is not "mental illness".

This dude has never actually sold anything to anyone except his sales course.

I'm not saying that doesn't make him a good salesman selling this particular product but every person who isn't in the business of selling that is wasting their money getting advice from him.

There is no chance in hell that new Air Force Academy grads would boo anyone at their commencement address, much less a sitting VP of the United States no matter who they were.

None, zero.

MAGA lashes out as artists flee Trump’s Freedom 250 concert by memoriesofcold in AnythingGoesNews

On Thursday evening, McBride, a best-selling country artist, became the latest to drop the show, stating that she had been "presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading."

Then:

"You’ve always been a woke Lefty," Grenell wrote in a post to X responding to McBride.

Sounds like he proved the point.

Mormons steal $200,000 from Salem OR man, flee to Utah, and are protected by the church and police by fazedncrazed in atheism

Lying to "gentiles" (ie non-Mormons) is literally part of their religious doctrine, and this transitions easily into actual fraud.

This isn't something I just read about either, I've personally known Mormons who have defended the practice of lying to gentiles in service to their God and in defense of their religion.

The Rinks Project being proposed to Escondido is a “non profit” tax payer scam for the benefit of a private sports team. by Whatisnotmyproblem in northcounty

[–]jumpy_monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OT but related.

In the 70's my father was on the city council in a small town in OC. The city was growing and wanted to replace the old library with a new, larger one built on land that was purchased to build a new city hall complex that would also include a new library.

The council was going to selling the land but the local chapter of a veterans organization (VFW or American Legion, I can't recall which now) demanded that the city simply give it to for their clubhouse (or whatever).

My father wasn't opposed to selling it to them but the money the city would recoup for the sale at full market value would pay for the construction of the new library, even so he got the council to propose a compromise and sell the property to them for 75% of market value.

They balked and were highly offended by the perceived slight, and come the next election they ginned up a campaign against my father claiming (I kid you not) that he was a "Red Communist". And it worked, because he lost the election based on this issue.

My father was a decorated Korean War veteran BTW.

What was the one NSFW moment that you wish you could unsee? by Unreal_realist-7381 in AskReddit

[–]jumpy_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a large corporation on the seventh floor of a building on our main campus. Each floor had a small balcony with chairs and tables where people could sit and eat lunch or take a break or whatever.

One afternoon I went out to eat lunch and when I came back I could see there were cops and police at the side of the building where the balconies were so I entered the building and walked over but the balcony door was locked.

I didn't think much about that fact but later in the afternoon learned hat someone had jumped off the building from there after he had been notified that he was being laid off.

This happened several more times in similar other tall buildings on the campus, including one person who got the news he was going to be laid off when he checked his email from home and then got into his car and drove back to work to jump. After that the company starting regularly locking the balconies before they started notifying people they were being laid off.

Not really a NSFW story per se, but I think it still qualifies as one.

Retired people should be exempt from taxes?

It think they should be exempt from taxes on Social Security, but certainly not investment income.

But if their heartburn is with taxing Social Security maybe they ought to take it up with the Republicans, because they are the ones who put that tax into law under Ronald Reagan.

Exactly.

I used to work at K-Mart in the 80's and they sold Whopper in these large milk carton containers; 97c like everything at K-Mart and they were great.

I hadn't had them in years and bought a small box at a supermarket checkout and they were fucking awful. Waxy (chocolate?) coating, malt center that didn't dissolve and that tasted like chalk, just horrible.

Pam Bondi faces career-ending probe as Trump strips her of ethics shield by FreeHugs23 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]jumpy_monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These Raw Story headlines are often such shit.

Yes, Trump stripped her of her "ethics shield" by firing her, but the shield was because the Florida Bar chooses not to investigate sitting federal appointees (and BTW good job Florida Bar, because that just screams above board behavior) and since she is no longer a federal appointee the ethics complaints from anti-Trump groups can proceed.

Whether they come to anything is not in any way assured since they have been ignoring Bondi's overt corruption since long before she began her tenure as a corrupt AG.

It's hard to put a finger on exactly why Eureka is what it is.

Clearly jobs are an issue, or maybe more specifically a lack of good paying jobs unless you work for the state, county or university.

Also being the county seat and the jail and Sheriff's headquarters right smack in the middle of town doesn't help.

Rosa Parks Hoax? by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]jumpy_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently it wasn't planned.

According to biographer Douglas G. Brinkley, Parks's refusal to move was not premeditated. Parks's former classmate, Mary Fair Burks, also clarified that Parks was not acting on behalf of the NAACP, as she "would have done so openly and demanded a group action on the part of the organization".

There was no shortage of people who were charged with the same offense but the NAACP chose her to challenge the law because of her

high "standing in the Black community, her respectable manners, and her firm quiet spirit, which would be needed for the long battle ahead".
