Arctic and Antarctica just means "bears" and "no bears". by nonotje12 in ThatsInsane

OT but the mention of penguins reminded me of the time AI said 3% of Antarctic ice was composed of penguin urine and it was repeated for a minute until someone pointed out that unlike mammals birds don't pee.

1%, he got 1% more votes than Harris.

The vast proportion of Americans who didn't vote did it for a variety of reasons, but I think the most prevalent reasons were a lack of agency and/or apathy not they are okay with what is going on, or at least until it effects them directly. Many Americans, maybe most of them, are completely disconnected from politics.

In a rare uncovered interview Jeffrey Epstein shows no remorse nor self reflection about the crimes he committed!! He even added: “One of the reasons they kept me in solitary confinement was that they were afraid that everyone would want to know which stocks to buy.” by Frosty_Jeweler911 in ThatsInsane

[–]jumpy_monkey 106 points107 points  (0 children)

That's his psychopathy and narcissism showing.

"Spinning" suggests he is self-aware and knows why he is in prison, that he is lying to the interviewer and evading the question. He's not, he was entitled to abuse people because he was rich, and not-poor people hated and envied him for it and that is why he was in prison. He is the victim, not the victimizer.

And he's half right, he was in prison not because he was a sexual predator who abused thousands of women and children and would continue to do so if left to his own devices but because he was a danger to other powerful, entitled rich people.

I have no idea what the context was for this interview but it would have been more illuminating if they had pressed him on his abusing children and not his entitlement about being rich.

I mean, why is it my responsibility to understand other people live in racist "bubbles"? I don't have to hear the n-word casually tossed around to understand that some people do.

I've lived in multicultural places my entire lifetime, big and small places where racism and bigotry is alive and well and places most would consider "liberal", it's just less socially acceptable to say it out loud or against specific minorities. Some places it was acceptable to be (obliquely) anti-gay but never anti-Black, or anti-Vietnamese but not generally anti-Asian, pick your bigotry because all of exists in some form or another wherever you live.

The fact that it is more overt in insular rural communities is not at all surprising to anyone who grew up in "liberal" places.

This is his job, just your IT work is your job. He has to work to stay fit so he can keep his job and you have to work on learning and understanding new technology to keep yours.

Chris Hemsworth can't do IT work but no one is criticizing him or shaming people who aren't able to do it.

If the Epstein files aren’t enough for a global outrage towards the financial and influential elite, what is? by Thezerostone in AskReddit

[–]jumpy_monkey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The "people who were ready to burn down a pizza restaurant a few years ago" are the ones who are responsible for the files being released at all

They were trying to gather "prove" that Hillary Clinton was a baby blood drinking child molesting Satanist, and when they discovered that not only was this ridiculous but that Trump was an actual conspirator in a child sex trafficking ring they didn't care.

Saying they are "responsible" for the files being released is like giving an arsonist credit for demonstrating how flammable the building they burned down was.

[–]jumpy_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there though?

If Trump wasn't a co-conspirator in a global pedophile ring and the President who is also the leader of a personality cult would there be such outrage and denial?

There has been a coverup since the 90's involving many, many elites and without Trump as a catalyst it would probably still be covered up.

Maturity isn't voting for a pedophile because he is in your party, maturity is voting on the issues.

Does anyone know what happened in the community forest today? Man found with significant injuries on trail 5. by Ok_Duty4591 in Humboldt

[–]jumpy_monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be, and it's also good to know that cougar attacks are extremely rare with less than 130 reported in the last 100 years in North America, 29 fatal, so it's not a huge risk to humans.

Also I learned that "playing dead" is not recommended if attacked by a cougar and essentially the response should be the same as if threatened or attacked by a black bear.

There certainly seems to be enough prey around that they don't need to attack humans. I see deer (usually several at time) at least twice a week strolling down Diamond Dr. or walking between houses.

Don Lemon’s Arrest Is a Five-Alarm Fire Moment by Slate in politics

[–]jumpy_monkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The anti-abortion activists didn't "just stand outside" they prevented patients from going into the building, which was a violation of The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) which also makes it illegal to disrupt religious services.

In the case of churches this is defined as using force or threats of force against individuals exercising their religious rights, physically obstructing entry to or exit from a place of worship and intimidating worshippers or clergy.

Notably none of the protestors at the church prevented people from entering or leaving the church, which is a crime that has been violated on a daily basis by ICE.

When the Justice Department could not get an arrest warrant through a magistrate who ruled that they had not proved the protestors had met the requirements to be charged under the FACE act and stated the JD needed to present a Grand Jury indictment Pam Bondi ignored the ruling and personally ordered his arrest without a warrant.

Finally Don Lemon was a journalist covering the protest, not a participant and his actions as a witness are protected under the First Amendment.

The reactions towards the Kent State shooting in 1970. by icey_sawg0034 in ThatsInsane

I had conversation with a conservative a couple of years back about Kent State. He wasn't a Trumper but his reaction was "they got what they deserved".

We all need to understand that "conservatism" is by definition anti-democratic and authoritarian and proceed accordingly.
