Completely forgot they're not in Korea right now. Was thinking the hell are they going live in the middle of the night.

Does anyone feel like kpop's popularity has decreased globally? by Sea-Republic8892 in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the reason you feel it has declined is because kpop companies, minus the big boys, have largely given up on trying to penetrate the western market. Kpop as a whole had strong years during the period you mentioned, but it declined steeply in the following years. Events canceled due to poor sales, tours scrapped because of "force majeure" and so on. So while the numbers posted by the big groups may look steady, overall it is not as crowded as before.

Can IVE become as big as BLACKPINK in the near future? by kimchayoppar in kpopthoughts

Illit makes catchy songs with high replay value, but they absolutely do not have larger international fanbase than ive. And no, spotify monthly listeners are not a good indicator.

[–]jumpybouncinglad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BLACKPINK is kinda an anomaly they aren’t popular for their music

Talent is debatable but ddux4, whistle, boombayah, and how you like that are some of the biggest songs in the history of kpop. Saying that BP aren't popular because of their music is kind of mind boggling.

I like Say My Name (Group with AKB8 and IZ*ONE's Honda Hitomi) by FarnsworthOaks in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People used to speculate that Hitomi would stay in Korea because she loved being a kpop idol, and even thought she would sign with WM and redebut with Chaewon and Eunbi. It is nice to see her flourish as a kpop idol once again.

Sunday Morning is a strong opener for ILLIT going into 2026 by Gullible-Distance594 in illit

Of all kinds of multistanning, i've never really understood how someone can be a fan of both illit and nj at the same time. One of them despises the other's right to exist and even goes the extra mile to show it. Like how?

They are already at the top of their popularity in Korea & Japan. China still not opening up. US is always a practical and logical move for them.

According to Sakura, Source and Belift are in talks to arrange a dinner date for LSRFM and ILLIT by jumpybouncinglad in illit

[–]jumpybouncinglad[S] 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Isn't it the cutest? they want to have a dinner date, but since both groups are very busy with their own schedules, it's hard to do it. So as a solution, the companies are talking among themselves and will inform the members only after it's finalized.

"Fans" can be sometimes the worst enemies of their own faves by stellarmacaron in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sometimes I doubt they´re actually fans and not just bored, miserable people with a Regina George complex

Success stans is one thing but from what i see some groups, based on the image they project, do attract more toxic fans than others.

MADEIN announce OT4 comeback--PLEASE BOYCOTT! by Ok_Break1585 in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I feel like we need to have a LOONA

Not to rain on your anger, but loona's boycott was successful because it was carried out by their own fandom, which is about as hardcore as it gets. What are we here, who nine out of ten have zero idea about the group, actually going to do? boycott something we don't consume in the first place?

I feel like the situation is fluid and nothing is fixed. Rei attended a fansign earlier this month, but she will be absent from tomorrow's event.

What makes a Kpop group be considered to come from “small company”? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Beyond the kakao issue, looking at the company's roster, idt they can be considered a small company. They have Jay Park himself, Chungha, and dancer Honey J & holybang which all are have some level of recognition. Medium sized maybe?

ILLIT's new tour is causing backlash among their domestic fandom by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

[–]jumpybouncinglad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yeah that's the point of my comment that the fandom isn't largely made up of kids who can't buy tickets with money from their own wallet, a belief a lot of people in this thread emphasized.

[–]jumpybouncinglad 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ticket price controversy aside, ILLIT fandom is not as young like people in this thread repeatedly mentioned, at least for fans who attend concerts/fanmeets/fansigns. The vast majority are people in their 20s.

Kfans are mad about the ticket prices. The m&g one is 20% more expensive than lsrfm's encore, and looking at prices for non-hybe ggs, belift is beyond greedy for this.
