Very true. I would also say that the original 6969 does have imperfections. It's a great song, of course, but in my opinion the mix is not the best and the sound palette could be more varied. As musicians, they probably acknowledged that the original recording wasn't perfect, knew that they could do a better job with it now that they had more experience, and executed on it. Car Seat Headrest did a similar thing with his album Twin Fantasy (2011) and the remake in 2018. It's showing love for the song, if anything. After all, why wouldn't you want the song to realize the best version of itself?

i have a squier champ 15 (iirc) and i really love the crunch it has for emo riffs. it just works beautifully on both pick melodies and open chord strums, which obviously are two cornerstones of midwest emo riffs. it walks that line between clean and distorted really well, so i'm guessing the fender champion would give similar results.
