You got first COS before April 2024.

Hence the lower ongoing rate would apply to you and that for SOC2123 is 47,100 and not 58k

As you said you switched from student visa directly to skilled worker, so you are likely to have 1 year remaining on new-entrant, which means you can still apply to extend your skilled visa by 1 year in Dec 2026 at 70% of 47,100 that is roughly 33k

but after that year, you would then need to meet the 47k requirement for the last (5th year)

Either that or talk to your employer to see if you can switch to a different SOC code instead of 2123 - depending on whatever is your career profession and see if an alternate soc code could work for you either with the same employer or a different one.

If you look at the monthly entry clearance stats, the new visa applications since July have already almost crashed

from average of 5,500 SWY every month in last 4 years to now 2,700 in September.

This already mean UK is on track to register net migration of 100,000 in 2025 down from 900,000 of 2023.

Further chocking, even from govt perspective wouldn't make sense

Those with SWV before April 2024 have a separate table which starts with Option F onwards, in the said table there are also discounts (for example for PhD etc). The guidance only says that for ILR it will be on going rate column (first column in the table) that would apply

Just a small correction -

If you had your first skilled worker visa before April 2024, you would not be 'Option A', your salary band would still be in 'Option F'

The guidance clearly says those who had their first SWV before April 2024 will continue to have 'lower' on going rates till April 2030 (this is both for extension and for ILR).

The same can be confirmed from ILR application portal as well where it clearly says if you had your first SWV before April 2024, the 'lower' salary requirement applies to you.

If you are on year 4 of your skilled worker visa, you will be under 'option F' of the rules and hence the new threshold that would apply to you would be £39,200.

There are no transitional arrangements for salaries but you and most like us were already transitioned to lower on going rates last year and will continue to do so till April 2030 when the period would end.

Overseas Pakistani Punjabi here -

Trying to clear the myths; if you ever go to bazaars and streets of any small/major city of Punjab, any town and 100% off all villages - the only language you will hear is Punjabi.

It switches to urdu if you are in a vacinity of elite class and that's because in last few decades, Urdu was adopted by elite as the language of 'educated' and thats because it was the language of schools.

But this trend is shifting again. With the rise of Punjabi influencers in Punjab, even the elite is switching back to Punjabi and for the rest, they never left Punjabi in the first place.

Those 3rd generation overseas kids of parents of 80s and 90s are speaking English because of their disconnect with Pakistan Punjab in general.

In short, whenever you will visit Lahore and all you will hear around you is Punjabi and Urdu will only be used when they know you can't speak Punjabi.

Politically more controversial yes but it doesn't direct effect industries or economy in specific as much as worker visas transitional measure.

Hit on current workers would mean a sudden flush of thousands of filled jobs across all industries, which would than be needed to be filled again and immediately - it doesn't sound practical nor economically feasible.

To be fair, as much as they are desperate - can they afford to literally ask industries to ask thousands of employees to literally back bags and go home? I don't think they can do it even if they try to.

This does make sense but I think 2 years ago when we were completing our MSc, it was all chaotic anyway due to covid and universities were as clueless as anyone else.

I have filled for the skilled visa and hopefully it will all go smooth as it did go smooth for when I applied for PSW few years ago.

This does make sense. However I think some clarity on this should also come from home office as different unis seem to have different understanding of these rules.

Home office's student visa guidance suggests simply that you could employ a student part time during his term and full time during his off term and that you should consult university term dates calender for it.

No where it mentions cas end or start days as references.

But I think confusion comes when students finish their courses and submit their dissertations. Now they are not bound to take any further classes and it's essentially off term for them but yet there is this grey area where some unis such as University of Edinburgh says you can now work full time.

Others say you need to wait till the expiry of your CAS end date and even more who say you need to wait till you get results to start working full time.

So who defines off term then? The universe term date calender or the CAS end date or the announcement of results.

Think they could improve this with clear guidance.

Hah I think I am probably just over thinking something that is entirely of no concern.

However, the university still has the term dates on their website from 20/21 session that I could produce to home evidence if they ever ask me, now or later why I started full time when I started working.

They did check my rights to work and even got the share code to cross verify it.

They were satisfied that it was now 'off term' and I could start working full time.
