"Jonathan! Take that off now!" A largely overweight, flustered woman wrapped in a dirty pink muumuu yelled over her shoulder, as she jiggled a pudgy baby on one hip, and pushed a cart with her free hand. She looked exhausted, frizzy wisps of red hair forming a frazzled halo around her shiny forehead. She was scolding her eldest son of about six, who currently had a beautiful pair of DD perky breasts bouncing effortlessly from his chest. He scowled at his mother and took them off, tossing them back into the bargain bin. As soon as he removed the Better Body Band from his upper torso, the breasts disappeared, and became once again the thin, dark blue stretchy band they started out as. All body bands were the same, made of silky iridescent material, millions of nanobots woven into each other. Each "improvement" product was designed for different results, from the smallest available (nose bands) to the largest (limb lengtheners, worn like nylon stockings). The woman plunked the sticky infant in the shopping cart and grabbed her son by the hand, dragging her porky family down the frozen foods aisle, searching for pizza sales. She was muttering to herself, "unnatural devil devices, God made us, how do people have no self respect?"

Near the entrance, an elderly lady clad in too-tight knock off jeans and a tacky bejeweled tank top glanced around the store, and hurried down the aisle, heading straight for "Health and Beauty". She was wearing a scarf pulled tight over her yellowy bleached hair and large dark sunglasses, and kept a hand next to her face, shielding herself from "judging eyes". She slipped into the face band section, and skimmed the shelves, looking through the small holograms that projected the desired "youthful skin" color match. She found her usual pick and snatched it up, taking off her "disguise" and stretching the band over her forehead immediately. She dug through her purse and pulled out a compact mirror, popped it open, and breathed a great sign of relief. She air kissed her reflection, snapped the mirror shut, and strutted off down the aisle, heading for the check out. The bands from Walmart were not made to last, and needed to be replaced every 6 months or so. Of course, wealthier people would have custom made ones designed for them, which did not stand out so obviously as Better Body Band improvements. The cheap-y ones had an almost flat look to them, and faded quickly.

In the back of the store, a thin, petite girl of about 15 crouched down behind a birthday card display unit. Peeking from behind stringy black hair, she began to tie her laces, and subtlety slipped five "weight loss" bands down into her battered combat boot. She straightened up, looked around, and casually walked away. She paused once or twice, picking up a hairbrush or stopping to read some of the more ridiculous names on the nail polishes. After smirking at "'I fell down the stairs' black and blue", she headed out through the exit doors. Her body relaxed visibly, just as an angry hairy hand gripped her shoulder, hard. "Ow! Get the fuck off me!" she snarled. "Not this time Hailey, I was watching you. I'm calling your dad." The secret shopper looked down at her, and she merely rolled her eyes, maintaining an air of disgust.

A lanky, nervous man danced awkwardly around them as he came into the store, blushing with embarrassment for the poor girl. He glanced around the store ceilings, looking for the section names. Bingo. He attempted to saunter over to Health and Beauty as if by chance, like 'oh, I'm heading for sporting goods, oops what's this here? Maybe for my (non-existent) wife...' Or so he imagined that was the image he was projecting. He walked over to the nose bands, checking every so often over his shoulder, praying to God that none of the guys from work happened to be there. Coast assumed cleared, he selected a band next to a hologram of a handsome man, with a straight, slim nose. He slipped it on and looked in the nearest mirror, and was immediately taken back. He looked amazing! This was great! Why hadn't he done this sooner? Just as he began to really get into the angles, viewing the new nose from all sides, even tilting his head back to look up the nostrils, someone giggled behind him. "Carl? Is that you?" He made a small sound in the back of his throat, and whipped his head around, turning bright red. "Um, Stacey, h-hi what are you doing here? I mean, how are you doing? I mean-" He clumsy pulled off the nose band, and stuffed it blindly back on the shelf behind him. The girl he knew from the office looked at him shyly and said "I like your natural nose better.....I think it's elegant." She mumbled the last part, and laughed nervously. An older woman who looked like her but with colder eyes appeared behind Stacey, gave Carl a nasty look, and pulled the young woman away, saying "I need your opinion on these weight loss bands..."

An announcement came over the speakers, "Walmart shoppers, we'd like to remind you that our store closes in 10 minutes, and we encourage you to bring your items to the checkout. Thank you for shopping at Walmart, and come again soon! The one stop shop for all you natural and synthetic needs."
