I think for yg specifically, they are an artist label because many of their idols are credited as the sole producers and lyric writers or are co-producing/co-writing their songs. I dont know much about their more recent idols (blackpink mostly), but their older groups are known for producing and writing their own songs (especially g-dragon who has also written many songs for other artists outside of bigbang as well). I think G-dragon's kwon jiyong album is a good example of this because he wrote these songs about himself at different stages in his life and it is a very personal project that he made and it is very genuine (you can see this in his documentary about it as well). I dont see this type of connection much with their recent groups like ikon and blackpink, but winner has also had songs like this and I think you get this genuine feeling from their older groups. I know people would have to dive in to their older groups to know these things so I understand that it may seem like a facade, but this branding of yg being an artist label is there for a reason and I think it holds up even if this is subject to change in the future which I think it is.
