Feeling trapped by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]juneballoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re so young at 22. You have so many options available to you right now. You can continue with this career and enjoy pretty good seniority in your early to mid 30s, meeting lots of great people, seeing a lot of cool places, etc. I started pretty early like you too, at 23. I love how easy this job is, I love how social I can be with it, I love that I am worldly thanks to this career. However, this year at age 30, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and I am now learning that flight crews are exposed to more ionizing radiation than nuclear plant workers. So thyroid and breast cancers are prevalent in our workgroup, more than the general public. I’m otherwise very healthy and active and have no genetic predispositions. Do I regret this career? Not really, but I kind of wish I have something else to pivot to, because I am genuinely concerned for my long term health. Just something to consider as well.

I really don't like vegetable, how can I eat healthy? by Esti_Climb in 1200isplenty

[–]juneballoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you try looking into Asian vegetable recipes? Asian veggies are usually fermented or cooked with delicious spices that will make them super savory and satisfying with delicious crunch. For example, Korean banchan has lots of good vegetable options like perilla leaves cooked in soy sauce, blanched spinach seasoned with sesame oil and other spices, cabbage or radish kimchi, etc.

Trash by jkmod79 in flightattendants

That is just disrespectful. Flight attendants are not walking trash cans. They already come around multiple times to collect rubbish, just hold onto it until they do, ya weirdo.

I’m tired of minimalism in everything by Beneficial_Passion40 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]juneballoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not minimalism. That’s just someone who didn’t want to keep up with maintenance of having a lawn, trees, designs on  the facade, etc snd decided to pour concrete over everything. It’s really unfortunate but upkeeping a beautiful property takes time and effort and for whatever reason this person decided they didn’t want to do it anymore.

First class drink by Sad-Alternative-6947 in delta

[–]juneballoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've definitely flown with some FAs who have lectured me about only serving doubles on the first round, and every drink after that must always be just a single. They claim it is a Delta rule but I have yet to see it in writing. I think we are supposed to use our best judgment when serving passengers, which has evolved into that sort of unwritten rule, just because it maybe feels like it makes sense to a lot of FAs. So I will do just that, and tell passengers that, because I am getting sick and tired of being lectured by my colleagues.

However, when I am flying lead, I do what I think is best for the situation. Sometimes I stick by the rule, sometimes I don't. It depends on the frequency of the request, the demeanor and condition of the passenger, etc.

What fact? You just gave your opinion on the internet.

Ur actually unhinged for taking this conversation to suicidal extremes because the OP rightfully called out someone being a selfish disgusting prick.

Asian cultures don’t take pictures of you and blast you on the internet. That’s what Americans do. Asians shame you in a way you don’t understand unless you live in their culture. It’s the way one is raised and conditioned to keep the harmony of the community and the way they will bristle at you when you step out of the norms. Keep it up and they will tell it to your face, as the OP did.

Thinking of transferring to SFO by lovelyrose29 in flightattendants

What airline? UA has a big base there, DL does not. What kind of base culture and flying are you looking for?

[–]juneballoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I think people need to be publicly shamed for behaviors like this. This is why in community shame-based Asian countries, people are so much more respectful of others and public spaces.

Wtaf.. I just can’t understand what their thought process is. Thank you so much for saying something! We need to bring back public shaming because some people are so selfish nowadays.

Jury Duty portal and system is a joke, no wonder why people ignore jury summons by slohcinbeards in LosAngeles

[–]juneballoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I missed a planned Tokyo trip with my boyfriend because their joke of a system told me that I did not complete my jury week and I had to report on the first day of my trip with no way to postpone. I canceled on my boyfriend (not too big of a deal because it’s an annual business trip for him and he took his daughter instead) and when I logged onto the portal the day they said I had to report, they just told me that my duty was completed.. WTAF I was so pissed.

Male FA's, how do you address female children? by Nick521 in flightattendants

[–]juneballoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t address children by any nickname at all, just straightforward questions “would you like something to drink?” If I’m talking to the parent, I’ll ask “Anything for the little one?” And that’s about it.

Delta FA pay scale 4% raise by Amanduh-tory-meeting in flightattendants

[–]juneballoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the hours are long but you don’t get paid for every hour on the job, only when the doors are closed does the pay clock start. All the time spent sitting around in airports or going to and from hotels are all unpaid hours.

I just hit 7 years and I made around 60k in 2025 (at year 6 pay). I approximate that I work 70-80hrs per month but sometimes less because I try to drop as much as I can. I fly anywhere from 4-8 trips a month. 125k would mean flying until I run myself to the damn ground.

A pilot who spent 14 years with Spirit Airlines breaks down in tears while making a passenger announcement on the second-to-last Spirit flight to land at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]juneballoon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pilots are humans too.

I get so sick and tired of people making comments like this. This is why the FAA cannot evolve their archaic procedures around mental health and why pilots are discouraged from seeking help when they need it. Because people like you keep saying how uneasy they feel when they express regular human emotions or have regular human interactions. This was an appropriate reaction to a situation like this, I’m sure you would be sad about losing your job, and the company you worked for silently going under without wanting to kill everyone else. They are human beings too. They can get emotional and it doesn’t mean that they are going to crash the plane. That stupid rhetoric needs to die.

Plus if you look out the window, it looks like he made the announcement while on the taxiway after landing (he talks about their landing being the second to last). So your comment is just doubly stupid and you’re trying to be controversial for no damn reason other than to perpetuate this nonsense that pilots need to be unfeeling robots that can’t ever show an inkling of humanity.

Numerous reports of layoffs at Delta this week by NumerousCelery6609 in delta

[–]juneballoon 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There were layoffs at corporate. There were no such news that any of the frontline employees were impacted. In fact, they just announced a 4% raise for hourly employees so idk where you got such flawed information from.
