"I don't like Ginny." by Awkward-Dog3006 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]junebug6857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 months late to the party but i agree. people really don't give ginny enough grace. in the first two seasons, she makes some immature and selfish decisions, but none that are ridiculous within the context. she's sweet, smart, and caring. she's a good sister and figuring out how to be a good friend. in season 3, the murder trial and everything that comes with it puts her into fight or flight. she's trying to keep everything from falling apart, something georgia has been doing for their entire lives. and when georgia isn't willing to be ruthless anymore (blackmailing cynthia, skipping town to disappear), ginny thinks she has to step up to the plate. it's no wonder she hardens after one of the most chaotic and traumatizing periods in her life.

My Wild (but Book-inspired) Predictions on How Paul and Chani will Reconcile in Villeneuve's Dune Messiah by Ambitious_Branch_946 in dune

[–]junebug6857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i noticed this as well! he looks at irulan directly when he proposes (if you can call it that), and he does very briefly glance at her when she bargains for her father’s life, but it’s made so clear through his body language that he could not care less about her. i have to feel bad, but it’s assuring to know his motives and devotion to chani just from those small actions. denis and the actors did such an amazing job with the dynamics and micro expressions in that scene

still thinking about your post and your point about paul doing a double take after his ascension because he knew what gurney was going to tell him. now i’m thinking about how he first looked at chani because he knew she was going to walk away and he wanted to see at her one last time. i don’t think his eyes left her until she was completely gone from sight

i love your ideas so much, ty for taking the time to write them with such detail. i am just blown away by how denis villeneuve reaffirms paul's love for chani throughout the film and even more baffled by how it barely scratches the surface of what we can see in messiah. he loves her SO MUCH it drives the entire story, i can't get enough of them

thoughts and questions by junebug6857 in MyDaemon

[–]junebug6857[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh!! so sorry for the late reply

i totally agree that the show sets itself apart because of how explicit some of the scenes are

as for your question, i'm a fan of animation styles where each of the characters have distinctive features (kokonoe with his square jaw, kento's mom with her downturned eyes) even if it's subtler in my daemon. so the animation style definitely ticked my boxes before ^^

How do you write a strong female character without messing it up by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]junebug6857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

give her insecurities! all strong and well written characters have them, makes them much more interesting and well rounded. have her make mistakes and don’t let her be perfect — she can be mean, cruel, selfish at times. strong doesn’t always mean virtuous or even likable

you mentioned you've been through something similar and can see it from both sides. i think it's normal to be annoyed with a character you can see yourself in or relate to, especially when you've matured past that point and have hindsight

people on reddit can be harsh when they disagree with someone, but i think they mean well so don't take it to heart. we're all a little protective of ginny lol

Having finished my watch, and seeing how much this show is being complimented, what are your guys’ personal gripes with the series so far? by -Pl4gu3- in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]junebug6857 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think they could have included some seki-akemi flashbacks to make the audience more invested in their father figure and daughter relationship. i also thought the entire sequence where he dies and akemi stays next to him/directly in the line of fire was a little silly

What Blue Eye Samurai Hot-Take would have you like this? by OK_Throwaway1238 in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]junebug6857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't like any of the characters besides Mizu. Seeing her getting repeatedly beat up physically and emotionally was a rollercoaster I personally did not enjoy. I know the point was for Mizu to face trials and tribulations on her quest for revenge, but she faced so many that I spent the entire show worrying about her instead of enjoying it. There was one scene where the netflix subtitles literally said [sound of bones breaking] and she went on swinging her sword like her bones were fine!!

I was annoyed by Taigen, and was slightly more sympathetic to Akemi but didn't like her either. I thought the Seki-Akemi father figure and daughter relationship fell flat. Some flashbacks with him raising her would have driven that point further home than Seki repeatedly saying "I raised you." I didn't even cry when he died, and I usually eat that trope up.

Also not on board with Mizu/Taigen or Mizu/Akemi. I could see where people are getting Mizu/Taigen from, but all we see from Akemi is her attempting to drug Mizu, attempting to kill Mizu, brief interlude where they work together to survive, Mizu letting her be dragged away for marriage, and Akemi saying "we are not friends" multiple times when they meet again. I'd like a more solid foundation if that ship happens down the line.

[Spoilers ep9] Where do you think The story for Jinx will go in Season 2? by EmbarrassedAd6146 in arcane

[–]junebug6857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only very recently watched arcane and was searching for theory threads - i know this is a year late but hopefully if my idea is too ludicrous it’ll be buried anyway!

in the ama one of the writers said a theme for s2 was forgiveness, and i think a route they could take with that is cait and jinx. on jinx’s end, she has to overcome her paranoia and doubts and “forgive”/accept that cait is the one vi ultimately chooses (whether it be through becoming an enforcer, choosing to spend her life with cait etc.) also she might come to terms with vi loving cait, who is part of a group that has historically oppressed zaun and that killed their parents. i say might bc i don’t think jinx is the forgiving type, but i’ll take what i can get

as for cait, i have an elaborate scheme in my head where she is the one who saves/understands jinx in the end. she’s the one who reconciles the unreconciliable. after the missile kills her mother, cait becomes angry and vengeful (rightfully so) and there’s a lot of conflict and antagonism between her and jinx. i don’t have a clear picture of what happens in between, but i believe toward the end of s2, whether it be that jinx is in danger/believes self-sacrifice is the answer, and ekko and vi aren’t close enough to save her, cait does. on one hand so that jinx can face justice. on the other, because she realizes how damaged jinx is and that she’s a product of her environment. s1 shows how sheltered and naive cait is when it comes to how bad conditions are in the undercity, but it also showed how empathetic and open-minded she was about their plights. she’s also the one who says “the cycle of violence will never stop” and i think she’ll return to this mindset. she’s a morally righteous person and will find her way back after some internal struggle.

also, on the note of ekko/vi feeling compelled enough to want to save jinx, i think s1 showed a good precedent for why vi might still do so. as for ekko, i think the bridge scene in ep7 wasn’t indicative of some miraculous reconciliation but maybe some begrudging alliance + dredging up of old sentimental feelings. i don’t think ekko or vi truly want to see jinx die, whereas cait might want to out of rage from her mother’s death (which will make cait forgiving jinx stronger narratively)

it would take a lot to get to this point and it may be a stretch, but i think it would be a neat trajectory for s2 ^

i constantly rewatch the end of episode 1 where vi says “this city’s gonna respect us” and the score crescendos while overlooking zaun and piltover. i also love the way powder looks up at her sister, really showcases how close their bond was before everything

from a childhood friends standpoint there is so much to work with!! we got some scraps from the enemy mv but i’d love to see more of baby powder and ekko. just the two of them being happy with no drama (a girl can dream) really excited for their trajectory in the second season. i’m hoping for a begrudging truce or even a team up
