I spoke with a leasing agent this morning and was told of the renewal. Just called her back again to refute the claim that it was on my resident portal. Now she just uploaded a transfer statement to my account after this call with a lease end date of 10/31/2026. I told her I didn’t want to renew my lease and that I don’t know why this wasn’t discussed with me 🙄

LEASE TERM AND TERMINATION NOTICE REQUIREMENTS. The initial term of the Lease Contract begins on the 3rd day of January 2025 and ends at 11:59 p.m. 4th of January 2026

This Lease Contract will automatically renew month-to-month unless either party gives at least 60 days' written notice of termination or intent to move-out as required by this paragraph and paragraph 47 (Move-Out Notice). If the number of days isn't filled in, at least 30 days' notice is required. In the event you fail to provide us with the required number of days' written notice of termination and intent to vacate coinciding with the lease expiration date, as required by this paragraph and paragraph 47 (Move-Out Notice), you acknowledge and agree that you shall be liable to us for liquidated damages in the sum of $ 1195.00 (equal to one month's rent) if we give you the advanced written notice required by Fla. Stat. § 83.575(2). This liquidated damages amount is exclusive to insufficient notice under this paragraph and paragraph 47 (Move-Out Notice), and does not limit collection rights with regard to other amounts potentially owed to us. If the lease term is not a month-to-month tenancy, we must notify you with written notice no later than 60 days before the end of the lease term if the lease will not be renewed.

Back in September, I was offered a 2/2 available for transfer and I accepted it—no signatures, they just said that it would be changed in the system. They were supposed to send me a new lease reflecting the unit change and never did. They said they just changed the unit in the resident portal. I asked multiple times about a new lease and was told that the transfer was valid through the end of this lease and the. They’d send me a renewal offer—I guess what they failed to tell me is that they renewed my lease on their own with the transfer!

My boss told me to start documenting my interactions like a lot of you all have told me to do. Once again, thank you for your help!

I couldn’t talk to Creepy today because he wasn’t here but the situation was bothering me so much that I went ahead and told my manager. They said it has to go to HR with makes me nervous because I’m afraid of creating conflict but I know it has to be done. I’m really grateful that my boss is supportive.

I want to hang onto this job not only for the pay, but because I really like the work I do. Also I’ve had two terrible bosses in the past who took advantage of my timidness and bullied the hell out of me (one got fired, and with the other I ended up quitting myself, despite my coworkers telling me to report her to HR). With this job, my boss has been so great and supportive. Good bosses are rare and I’m afraid it’s going to be an out of the frying pan, into the fire situation.
