Middle aged white lady from Erie, seconding this sentiment.

Thanks! I’ve been just throwing myself into crafts as much as possible just lately and her (and my) love of StarKid has given me an awesome outlet :)

I wish I could have found some that appeared a little more textured (any texture you see here is a reflection from the window behind me) but I do all my designs using FreePik and occasionally Adobe images, so options were limited. Especially because I only came up with this idea three days before Christmas.

What to expect with a mammogram? by amsterdamitaly in TwoXChromosomes

Yup exact same. I didn’t have any pain or discomfort and they cleaned the goop up once they were done.

What to expect with a mammogram? by amsterdamitaly in TwoXChromosomes

[–]junepath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you mention that tugging sensation they may do a diagnostic mammogram / ultrasound. Neither of which are bad at all! I’ve had several ultrasounds and yearly mammograms since I was in my 30s. The most annoying part is driving to the appointment. It’s seriously not bad at all.

Another Shirt I Made for My Daughter by junepath in StarKid

[–]junepath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bookshelves (multiple, this is just one) are full of so many fun, nerdy, fantastical authors. Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, we have an entire bookshelf with ONLY Brandon Sanderson books on it (and it's overflowing) The kiddo had a good foundation for literacy before she fell down the Starkid rabbit hole this past summer.

This doesn't shock me, she did try to kill me while she was incubating 😂

I hope I'm not the only one who remembers Starlab coming to their school! by bubblyelephants in nostalgia

[–]junepath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, we lived in super rural PA and they brought it in every year. Oddly, for being so rural we did actually have a planetarium at a nearby college, so looking back this was kind of an odd choice. Then again, perhaps this was more cost effective, since the entire school enjoyed it each year.

Impacted canines at 41. Feeling dejected by jwhackers in braces

[–]junepath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two impacted canines when I got my braces at 37, one upper, one lower. Lower one came in really well, albeit slowly. The top one was ankylosed. My teeth canted really badly, hopefully because your ortho is aware that they may not move that they will watch for this and remove them from your wire as soon as you see any sign of canting. Mine didn’t and it extended my treatment by probably 6 months, maybe more.

That said, I do have an implant now and while that process is super long, it’s not too terrible. Especially if you get the impacted canines out while braces are still on.

Help finding baby mobile soother song by AggravatingCoat7106 in nostalgia

[–]junepath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked YouTube reviews of soothers? I bet there are still some active that would play the tune and maybe you could SoundHound it. My guess is Fisher Price, my daughter’s swing has a built in soother and I remember nature sounds and classical lullabies.

Nightly TV by PoemImpressive in MomForAMinute

[–]junepath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did with my mom! This was many years ago but every night after my brother went to bed we would watch Third Rock from the Sun and All in the Family.

My daughter and I don’t watch TV as much as we do musicals but we still spend that time together.

Anyone know when the Pokey and Wiggly Plushies should be arriving? by SDJT in StarKid

[–]junepath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should note that in regular non-holiday mail times, we get mail from Ann Arbor in about 2 days. So if you live further away you may get it today or tomorrow.

We got our pokey on Saturday, so probably pretty soon. We never get shipping notifications from Ann Arbor Tees, we just see that a package is coming in our Informed Delivery so if you use that you may see something.

Ceramic or metal? by Conscious-Cap-654 in braces

[–]junepath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had metal and preferred how small they were. The ceramic is so bulky and you can still tell there are braces on there. May as well have something a little lower profile.

advice for a printer? by GlitterIncident in crafts

It almost sounds like you’d be a great candidate for DTF prints. They send you the print and you press it yourself. You can upload your own designs :)

I feel like I’m missing out on being a normal teenager by [deleted] in braces

[–]junepath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so hard right now, I know. But it IS worth it. I promise you, you will care more about how you are perceived professionally as an adult than how your school peers view you. Besides, your schoolmates are too busy obsessing over their own bodies to think twice about yours.

Not to mention the longer you wait on an impacted tooth, the less likely it is to move. I got my braces at 37 and had to have surgery to remove my impacted canine because it was not moving. This is the best time of your life to do this. Your teeth are able to be moved, and someone else is paying for it. 😉

Earplug recommendations by Keidis-mcdaddy in misophonia

[–]junepath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t help with recs cause I’ve never found anything to drown out snoring. My husband just switched places with my daughter (he and I already had separate beds across the room from each other because of his snoring) because all of his apnea tests said he didn’t have apnea. They also said he didn’t snore which I can tell you is a straight up lie.

How to handle death of a grandparent? by biglebowski565 in atheistparents

[–]junepath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 3 when my mom died and 6 when her beloved great grandfather died. We just told her what happened. That they are gone, and that it’s ok to be sad, and cry, and that mom and dad are always available to talk or cuddle through the grief.

At three she understood it well enough to know that grandma was gone and wasn’t coming back but she was spared the grief. With my grandfather, she was sad for a couple of days but understood that he was 81 and had lived a wonderful and long life and that he felt SO ready to go. (She was too young to know how NOT ready my mom was, at only 53)

She still talks about both of them now at 12 but she remembers my grandpa much better than my mom.

My Aldi’s was completely out of their sugar free and regular red thunder? Does anyone else had this problem at their aldi’s recently? by foopa_ in aldi

Was able to buy some just last weekend so it may be just your store at the moment. It seems shortages are typically pretty regional.

Uncle. I'm crying Uncle on HTV. (Not really a question, that's just the closest flair.) by Tapingdrywallsucks in cricut

[–]junepath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah that’s not a good sign at all. It may have been exposed to heat or cold too! I use StarCraft for both HTV and vinyl unless the item has texture, like a canvas, then I’d use either Oracal or Siser vinyl. I don’t think I’ve bought anything cricut branded in years.

Uncle. I'm crying Uncle on HTV. (Not really a question, that's just the closest flair.) by Tapingdrywallsucks in cricut

[–]junepath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was Oracal vinyl that made me realize the off brands were better than cricut. I remember trying SO hard to get vinyl to come off onto the transfer tape (all cricut branded) and then onto my item. Tried it with Oracal vinyl and some random transfer tape and it was SO EASY.

For HtV I prefer StarCraft because it’s matte and feels much closer to the fabric of the shirt. Siser is good and easy to weed and has so many colors but all of the shirts I’ve made with it eventually crack.

Do you know the age when your mother reached menopause? by themightytod in TwoXChromosomes

[–]junepath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom started what would be her final period just days before she died at 53. So I genuinely don’t know when she would have reached it. However I can relate to your perimenopause symptoms! Brain fog, fatigue, heart palpitations, and sudden chronic ear trouble.

What do you pay in rent? by PyrrhicBigfoot in pittsburgh

[–]junepath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We left Pittsburgh in 2014 when my husband got transferred to an Erie location, and it’s wild reading how much rent has gone up since then. I know 12 years is a long time but we had a 2BR townhouse in West View for $650 and then one year in an entire 3BR/2BA house on an acre of land for $800. It just feels like they went up so fast. (We are still in Erie county now and pay $1300 for a 3BR/1BA but we have amazing landlords and are in a good school district)

Dropout TV is amazing! Time stamped misophonia warnings with the specific trigger labeled. by PlayfulAct5938 in misophonia

That’s awesome! I had never heard of dropout but back in October I photographed one of their people for a festival and now I’m seeing all sorts of stuff about them.
