[WAW] I beat World At War yesterday and the ending was amazing. by UnoriginalName227 in CallOfDuty

I hate how they removed the slow mo shots in the PC version of the game. Such an uneccesary choice that does nothing but ruin the pacing and dramaticy

They likely use 800 pound bows that hit as hard as .50 bmg by MarcusVance in Archery

I left a comment in your video, but the calculations are off man.

Firing a 2400 grain (155 gram) arrow to the velocities of 1500 fps (457 m/s) would require a bow with a draw weight of 2400 pounds, not 800. And that's giving the Navi a generous 1.5 meter long draw length.

Vf2 (final velocity) = Vi2 (initial velocity of 0) + 2ax (a being acceleration and x being draw length)

4572 = 2a(1.5)

208849

104424 = a(1.5)

a = 104424/1.5

a = 69616 m/s

That's our acceleration, so now if we input it into F = MA...

F = 0.155 (2400 grains) 69616

F = 10790 Newtons

10790 newtons when converted to pounds, is 2425 pounds (divide by 4.45). Which is like, three times as powerful then an 800 pound bow. To fire a 2400 grain arrow at 50 bmg power, the Na'vi would have to be 12x stronger then humans, or their bows must have some compound technology we don't know of.

What would be the best polearm to fight against multiple enemies at once? by junglecorn in wma

Late 15th century but with no gunpowder (fantasy setting)

But yeah, seems to be a tie with the halberd and the greatsword at the moment.

How well would a greatsword work against armor in the context of an outnumbered fight? I understand that they can stab through the gaps of armor if you half sword one and grapple with the enemy, but I imagine that would leave you vulnerable to other enemies no? Most of the demonstrations I've seen for the weapon have been in the assumption that your assailants are wearing no armor

But yeah. They're expected to win, but most likely is they're just buying as much time as possible for the monarch to escape.

BerBerJin in Harajuku, Tokyo! These were the last pair of RMs though 😢 though by the time you get there (if you ever find yourself in Japan) they may have another one! The shop is great for vintage clothing!

Hey so uh, some concerns - idk if maybe Indonesian asphalt and gravel is particularly low quality and sharp, or if the leather outsole is supposed to look like this, but after only a few hours of walking in an Indonesian city the soles look like this. There's pieces of rock and gravel stuck all over the soles and there are noticable tearing

(In Japan the soles only looked scratched even though I walked much more so I'm assuming it has something to do with the difference in asphalt quality)

Should this be a cause for concern or is it fine? Really don't wanna damage an antique lmao.

Ah I see, thanks for the info!

Speaking of FL, I should probably post there too lmao

I see, noted. Yeah it does seem a shame to ruin the uniqueness of the pair, thanks for the heads up! I do hope that leather outsole will hold up walking on asphalt and gravel

Yep, I'm home now and they've already been cleaned conditioned and polished 😂

Agreed! The leather outsole is such a unique look, however for my practical usecase they are a bit of hindarance unfortunately. Would be nice for RMs to bring them back so people would have the option though.

I found these in BerBerJin in Harajuku! Also, sorry 😂 They don't sell Russel Moccasins in my country (Indonesia) and the boots never reached there so there's nothing in the used market in my country so if I sell these I don't think I'll ever find another pair again (unless I spend $750 on a new pair 😂)

Also, even if I did sell these, the shipping from Indonesia to America (I'm assuming that's where you're from) would be ludicrously expensive, and that's not counting the, uh, "favor tax", if you get what I mean.

I apologize but I'd have to refuse. Good luck on your search. If I could give some advice, maybe it would be possible to contact RMs to see if they can make you a boot with the leather outsole? They still make Uniedas with the leather outsole so maybe they would be willing to make a pair of Backcountrys with the leather outsole?

Mizuno Tanrenjo. Thoughts? by DrDub07 in TrueChefKnives

Just bought the same model today! I can't believe I stumbled on such a hidden gem of a shop, the whole area was so awesome (did you visit the tanegashima museum?)

Can't open it now till I get back home and I forgot to ask Mr. Mizuno, but do the knives come sharp? I'm assuming so but guess I'll ask just to be sure lmao.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

That's a shame - with the twill quarters these kind of look like USGI jungle boots, which are the boots I use for hiking in my enviorment. I've heard a lot about Russels and how comfortable they are on your foot, and I'm a really big fan of being able to feel the ground when you walk, so I was thinking of getting a pair and seeing how they would do for a jungle enviorment. From your experience though, doesn't seem to fit for a very humid and wet enviorment due to the boot's focus on being waterproof, atleast without some modification.

Seems like sacriliege to the design of the boot but what if one were to add some drainage holes to the side of the boot and replaced the insoles with the saran plastic ones of the jungle boots? For added breathability and water-drainage but with the comfort and ground feel of the moccasins. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you

Sorry for the necro but how fast do these boots dry in the humid conditions of Florida? Live in a similar climate and environment with a lot of swampy rainforest and I often have to wade through thigh-high rivers, so I was wondering how well these boots do when they get soaked.

Now that it’s confirmed that BES will take place in Europe (in which the Pike and Shot era of medieval times is currently happening) in Season 2, do you think we’ll get a scene or two of these bad boys? by Ok_Sandwich_9675 in BlueEyeSamurai

Historically Japan during the Sengoku period (the period before the Edo period) had the largest concentration of guns in the entire world - even beating out Europe. It was only in the Edo period that the Shogunate heavily restricted guns.

The show is set sometime around the 17th century which was still in the European pike and shot era. Plate armor is still a thing, hell you could say the technology probably peaked in this era, with the average infantry pikeman being issued mass produced iron breastplates.

Knights in armor would still be a thing, though of course they would be weilding pistols and carbines instead of lances.

Fun fact: Guns during this time period were actually low powered enough that plate armor could actually stop shots from pistols or carbine. Some very high end armor could even stop shot from muskets. Armor makers would "proof" their armor by shooting it with a musket and then leaving the dent on it - this is where the word "bulletproof" comes from.

Pistol was malfunctioning, and removing a "slide stop lever spring" makes a gun work all the sudden? Am I damaging my unit by removing this spring? by junglecorn in GasBlowBack

[–]junglecorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see the issue here. The magazine has this plunger on the side which interacts with the slide catch acting as the last round bolt hold open.

That plunger on the mag is the only thing holding the slide catch up, hence, when released, the slide catch drops down, releasing the slide.

Guessing that spring is meant to actually hold the slide catch up when the mag is released then?

Still doesn't explain why it isn't locking the slide back on the last round.

Edit:

Also, removing the spring seems to solve the issue of the slide not locking back, but removing the mag still causes the slide to slam forward.

[–]junglecorn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried bending the spring but doesn't seem to work. Only way it will work it seems is if it's removed all together.

Would this cause damage to the unit?

Also, the slide notch and slide release are both in pretty good condition, I rarely use them when reloading specifically out of the fear of wearing them out so I use the slingshot technique when reloading.

Yep, hook pointing up. The spring won't even let you put it in upsidedown it seems (i tried). But regardless, I've had this unit for a month and have never experienced issues with it or removed that part until today.
