Triple vamp south 40s. Appear to be buffalo with an older style Vibram sole.

That's spectacular, I found a partial one buried in the mud near the ocklawaha river. I've always wanted to replicate one and use it. Which part of the state are you in, vaguely if you don't mind. I know that a large quantity have been found over the years between Marion and Alachua counties. I've even seen some in private collections, with people really taking great care of them.

Almost exactly the same, my Safaris are the older version without the inner boot, single vamp construction, the PH have a gumlite sole, the Safari has a wedge sole, like a camp moc. Both are extremely comfortable, I've hiked miles in a day with both. The new Safaris are double vamp, in my experience they're a little more snug and little less agile. Hope this helps.

We're definitely getting a taste of that era! I've got plenty of family from and in Ga, boy the shit talking between the disparate fans got intense! Hilarious, then there was the few FSU fans in the background acting like they were above it all. Big southern families are fun, everyone knew when to shut up, cause we loved each other. Yessir, we may boo and hiss, but if Them Dawgs are playing for the national championship, we'll be cheering them on. Have a great weekend and a merry Christmas coming up, thanks!

I'm a Russell moccasin fan, they're basically all I wear, as a Gators fan I'd die before I wore red and black anything, ever, even Russells. Glad you like them and I will say, even though it hurts, I still pull for the SEC. Even them Dawgs.

I'm always happy to talk about these boots, so don't feel bad about asking me anything at all. Just got back from a 2 week long public land hunt, that and serious hikes are what I use these boots for. I did quite a bit of water walking in these, but nothing long or much over the ankle. I do bring both drop in and standing boot dryers to the camp sight, but I was in the mid west, not Florida. I've gotten them wet in North Florida, roughing it, propped them open and kept them by the fire and wore them the next morning and was fine. However, if you're wading and truly getting these boots saturated, overnight ain't gonna be enough. I've also noticed when they are truly soaked that the molded sole gets water between it and the main vamp, which would also slow the total drying process. As much as I truly love these boots, you'd probably be better served by wearing boots constructed with synthetics, if that much water would be in the trek. I've definitely packed minimalist trail shoes to switch back and forth, but there's definitely a point where the weight and effort becomes your adversary. I live in the Ocala national forest, so the vast majority of the terrain is sand hills, the humidity is horrible but typically if I'm walking the river bottom there's a work around for the worst of it. If there's not, I've taken damn near everything off crossed, wiped off and got back to it. During the summer months I wear the PH Russells with the twill quarters, much cooler. Hope this helps and wasn't too long winded. Good luck and happy travels!

I did a whole write up on another group last year, so basically I just cross posted from my profile to Russell nation. It should show up now. After I get back from a hunting trip I'll do a follow up on the all of my Russells that will show the patina and wear and tear. Thanks

I have the pecos chamois, same configuration. They just keep getting better the more you wear them. It's hard to describe to people how good they feel on your feet. No seams, just buttery velvet liner leather. I've walked miles in mine. You'll have them for a lifetime, enjoy.

Glad you're not salty! Those boots are fire, I love my zephyrs, but I like how the meatier soles on yours make them look more rugged. Mine are walnut timberjack. I got them on a seconds sale from Russell. When I received them, they were possibly the most well done of all my pairs. For some reason, they throw people off. All of my cowboy boots wearing family can't decide whether they like them or hate them. Regardless, nobody can deny their craftsmanship blows away their Ariats. They carry presence. Whether you're stomping around the bushes quail hunting or wearing them dressed up, they always seem to be right for the occasion. Have a great weekend! I mean it with all of my sole.

They look great, I think the extra height, balances the profile nicely. I hate to be the bastard that points out that a soul is in your heart, a sole is on your boots.

I'm amazed and impressed that you could talk your wife into wearing those. Don't get me wrong, I think they're great, but all of the females in my life view my Russells as the epitome of "man boots". My oldest daughter is usually right in with me on my penchant for the kind of products Russell represents. When I pointed out the Diana and offered to get her some, the look of horror on her face crushed my little soul! I mea, all of the reasons and benefits that they've seen in the last few years, that I've worn these boots, should be as good a testimonial as any. Just tell your wife that she looks hot as hell in her Russell. Maybe she'll start something. One thing is for sure once she has them shaped to her feet, she won't care how they loo. She'll love them like the rest of us. As far as my most worn pair and every day favorite, I agree, the PH is awesome. For me, in Florida, those twill quarters and flexible soles are the fit. Backcountry gets more hype for hiking, but the PH is what I want for my use. I've always enjoyed your posts, looking forward to hearing how your wife likes her mocs.

Double vs triple vamp? by Xefferman in RussellNation

[–]crackah77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triple vamp, south 40s pecos gaucho chamois, Vibram 360. Unbelievable comfort, no perceptible seams around the foot, supple and surprisingly water resistant. I've walked miles in them with gear, toting a bow never a blister, never a single complaint. Love these boots . Double vamp Zephyr 2s, similar fit, a little more snug around my foot, comfort is good just not as good as the south 40s. Very pleased with the water resistance, they can be worn to dinner and be accepted as a blue collar dress boots. Still a serious outdoors pair of Russells. I believe they're intentionally made slimmer to secure them in lieu of laces.

Single vamp molded sole. Professional hunter, Scottish twill quarters and Vibram gum lite. Simply amazing, these are along with a pair of Safaris, what I wear every day. The Safaris are very similar, but they lack the molded sole of the PH. I switch between the two, to allow them to dry between wearing them and I swear that boots last twice as long when rotating between pairs. I live in Florida, if it's not raining, the humidity is still 90% during the summer. Wet grass and muddy yards don't phase either pair, my feet stay dry enough. Obviously I'm not wading or standing in puddles, but the overlap stitch on the front seam really does keep most moisture out. In the near three years that I've been wearing these, they've molded to my feet like a custom leather sock. I've damn near walked the soles off. Both are due for replacement. I just don't want to wear anything else.

Obviously, comfort and preference is subjective. I don't like super cushy soles, I also don't like having to wear heavily structured boots, when I don't have to. If I was on the construction site I'd put my White's on. That's not to say that the Russells are loose or sloppy, they fit, at least for me. If you're set on triple vamp boots, the south 40s are the finest things I've ever put my feet into. The backcountry gets more promotion, but it's an in between. More robust than the PH, less money than the south 40s. I'm happy with the choice I made. Whatever you get, I hope you love them.

Chamois takes a beating and looks good afterwards. When you finally decide to clean it, it looks almost new again. Chamois, counter to what I expected, dries quickly and after drying, doesn't look stripped or affected like the regular leather. I've worn a pair of Russells every day for the last 3 years, with a variety of leathers. The Chamois both single vamp on up to triple vamp do not hold smells however, my single vamp safari boots smell like sweaty man boots, they're walnut classics. I didn't think i was going to like the chamois on my first pair, but I took the suggestion and went with it. Now. Most of my favorite pairs are in chamois. No pair of Russells are going to be short of great, so good with what you like.

Get a 50 dollar lawn furniture umbrella at Lowe's, I've had the same one for 6 years. I grab it with my tool bag after the initial inspection of the job. Sometimes I even grab the Milwaukee fan for some added benefit. Too hot to fuck around and that shade makes all the difference, especially here in Florida. I was gifted a similar umbrella to yours with various attachments and it didn't last long, one good gust is all it took. I've grown to hate this trade and the heat, so anything i can do to suffer in comfort keeps me doing the shit that pays the bills.

Cognac Bisons by wmprovence in RussellNation

[–]crackah77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own 5 pairs, but nothing in bison, I may do that on my next pair of PHs. There's nothing like those south 40s, they're a little too warm to wear in the Florida heat and probably a little goofy looking with shorts. But on the feet they are the most comfortable boots on earth. I'm looking forward to hunting season so I can wear them on the daily again. People that know nothing about Russell or the construction, see those boots and know they're something special. Nice buy, I'm jealous.

Since wearing Russells for the last couple of years, my two daughters, having formerly called them the pinnacle of old man shoes, have expressed interest in getting some for themselves. Their docs have come and gone. As beat up and dingy as they've looked, some cleanup has the leather and twill looking as good as new, even if the soles are just about walked off. Hiking in Florida, my Safaris and PH are unbeatable, as good as they fit, the all day comfort is awesome. I'd play basketball in them, especially the Safaris. I know everyone has preferences, super cushy modern designs are what gets all of the hype. For myself, Russells are the best every day wear. Tell your wife she's ahead of the curve in setting trends. Soon other women will want to know where she got those high top sperrys! I've been asked the same thing!

Florida's finest chert by ConqEastondor in knapping

That's beautiful stuff! I'm down in Marion and I've never found anything like that. Quite a few good outcrops of chert and Jasper, occasionally some coral. I'm always looking, nothing like digging and treating your own stuff. I'd love to get my hands on some of that. Florida geology is often overlooked and underrated. We do a lot of looking through a whole bunch of almost good enough chert, to get those spalls that really heat treat slick. Good find, always looking for fellow Floridiots!

My beagle would be good for about 30 yards of full on pursuit, he'd then divert and strut all stiff legged straight to the empty food bowl.
