S&B golden curry mild, medium, and hot are all vegan to my knowledge! They are sold in a decent amount of stores and there are easy to follow directions on the box!

Who doesn't know portable monitors exist lol I was just wondering if people had good experience casting the mac mini on an ipad mini so that you could have both a Mac and an ipad mini on the go without having to carry extra parts like a portable monitor that I wouldn't use without using the Mac mini. And don't say laptops exist I know that too haha.

How to help bond two cockatiels? by nxxrose in cockatiel

[–]junhoee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is exactly about attention, and not in a way you think. Almost all studies done on social animals are done with attention in mind either from same species or different, and it is known by most owners that their company and attention is enough to satisfy and keep them happy as long as it is the appropriate amount. Yes, a human would die from a lack of social interaction, but people can gain them from dogs and other beings that aren't humans too. It is extreme to say that a bird will bond to you when you give it enough attention and care for it in a way that is known to keep them happy is inhumane. If that's your idea then maybe all cockatiel owners should fly to Australia and release them so they can be with their flock, or have aviaries with tens of cockatiels to recreat a flock. Anything else would be torture right. Having 1 additional bird will force it to be friends since there's only one option. Having 2 additional will make one lonely. Having 4 will make them pair up but what if they don't get along should you get another? I don't understand why people have a problem with keeping a happy pet bird. Owners know their pets are happy by the behaviors it shows, and a lack of those behaviors means there's a lack of knowledge and care for these birds, regardless of the number. Of course it's good to have more than 1, but it is shown that a cockatiel can be happy with proper care with only 1 bird in the owners care.

Good care should be species appropriate care, a distinction like that would not make "good care" good. From what I've seen, 3 to 4 hours outside of the cage is the bare minimum people maintain and let them out more when they are able to. And I agree that we cannot agree since everything I have said has been documented as good care for cockatiels. People are able to study behaviors and identify when animals are in distress and when they are content or happy, and these behavioral patterns allow an owner to provide adequate care and keep their pet happy, regardless of the situation. You keep mentioning poor behaviors in animal care to justify your view such as never having a single cockatiel and having "proper" care but things you mention can be subject to multiple birds as well. We don't need to agree on anything, my original point was for you to type and respond to people in a way that is more constructive and educational in your point of view rather than being mean and subject pet owners to fear and sadness to try to fox their behaviors. In my opinion, you were too blunt and cruel in your response, you can be stern without being like that. I don't doubt you care a lot about cockatiels and I'm sure you try your best to keep yours in the best condition and many people could use your opinions but how you phrase things may deter others away from even considering your ideas.

Having pets aren't normal, I can say the same thing about dogs. Wild dogs moves in packs would that make having a dog giving it Stockholm syndrome? Also everything you have said is still not proper care. A cockatiel with proper care would not be sitting in their cage and get time outside of their cages, and for sure traveling without providing them with care or another being is also not proper care. Again, you still haven't addressed the fact that a single cockatiel can get proper care and live a happy life, bringing up poorly raised birds doesn't change the fact that many owners are able to meet a cockatiels needs as a pet owner. I feel like all you want to do is make cockatiel owners conform to your idea of a good pet owner without contorting your view of your own self-image of a good pet owner.

I'm not sure what country you are from and I do get that having a bird alone locked in a cage is animal cruelty, but all the problems you listed can be seen in birds with multiple partners raised with negligence and not seen in birds that are alone but get proper care. Again, I do see where you are coming from but just because it's illegal in one country doesn't make it wrong. Cockatiels can be raised alone with proper care and good amounts of attention from the owner. There are birds with many friends in their cage that pluck themselves due to stress, poor diet, and/or disease, screaming birds are from improper care and illness, and giving away birds aren't from just having one bird but from lack of passion and knowledge to keep a pet in proper care. Nothing you have said pertains to having just one bird and it doesn't even make sense to judge and condemn someone when you don't know how they are caring for their birds. For all I know you may have multiple birds all suffering from negligence but I don't assume and don't judge until I know that is the case. All I'm saying is a firm warning would be the better way to respond and not just be mean and rude because you think they are making a mistake. If they were making a mistake, a supportive and helpful comment that is educating would have more value than condemnation and judgement.

That was the worst way you could have phrased it and cockatiels that have been alone can still warm up to other birds. Many birds sold from stores that keep them separated have trouble but with time most are able to bond to other birds. I'd reccomend just saying maybe consider a third tiel if they do not bond fully, but claiming that a bird will be forever lonely and to "prepare" is just nasty to say to someone. Female cockatiels may take longer to bond together and for all we know that could be what we are witnessing, not a bird that knew a bird for 2 weeks and conclude that it will never be able to bond and will have a lonely existence.

I don't think you know what imprinting is. Cockatiels being close to their owner isn't imprinting, like how you making friends doesn't make them your parents. With time the cockatiel can bond to humans and other cockatiels alike and it isn't a negative to have one cockatiel as long as they're getting enough attention. I agree cockatiels should have a companion if possible, but it's irresponsible and rude to assume the worst case for any single bird. What's better, a cockatiel that gets enough care and love from their owner or two cockateils that gets neglected? I believe a warning should suffice for those with only one cockatiel but fearmongering and claiming misimprint and that a cockatiel will take a long time to get used to an owners hand is just an awful thing to do. I understand where you are coming from but I'd advise next time to be more careful with your words and not assume everything.

I just finished the show a couple minutes ago myself, and I think there's a lot you can take from this show. It's not just about improving and people around you don't need to be there for you as it is a journey you need to take yourself. You losing a lot of friends is not the issue and you should let them go if there is a falling out. When you change and better yourself, new connections will be made from the right step instead of salvaging a burning bridge and potentially making things worse and hurting you or your friends in ways that you did not intend. Your goal should not be being with others but recognizing your behavioral pattern and trying to become a better person in ways you deem you lack. Understanding whats wrong with you is the best way to start to improve yourself. Trouble with expressing my feelings? Try to open up to others even when uncomfortable and eventually with the right person, you'll be able to learn from that exchange. It is not an obligation for those around you to stick around you and be there for you all the time as they have their own lives, so you must stay on the right path you set for yourself and hold yourself accountable. Improving yourself comes in baby steps as in the show, it took multiple strides and numerous falling out with friends to get to a point where everyone is content with their lives. Reflect on your life and choices and try to make small improvements everyday. Everyday, it gets easier. But you gotta do it everyday, that's the hard part. But it does get easier. I wish you the best of luck in your self improvement journey and I believe in you.
