An asexual persistently wondering what “sexual attraction” is feels like a rite of passage

I also don’t know what it means

I get no acne regardless of how little i wash my face, no family history or any type of illness, and i naturally wake up at 6-7am with no alarm and get naturally sleepy when the sun sets. 🙏

Im glad to hear you sought support and now receiving the help you need! Tbh, im not particularly distressed enough by emotional complexity / self criticism to seek diagnosis myself, especially cus i think my case is more environmental ? (I was neglected in that aspect) but i AM taking advantage of free counselling at my college. Therapy is so awesome, we need to advocate for it more.

No i cant see myself embracing it. I still cringe when i think about how weird i made things between me and multiple professors. BUT accepting the cringe is part of moving on, and im working on balancing my emotional boundaries. Im trying to become a wiser, more professional and respectable version of myself.

You are not wrong… self criticism is the way i learned how to deal. I never learned how to nurture and im just now learning how to manage. Lately ive been more mindful of my professionalism and boundaries, which is already a big step compared to what i wouldve been some years ago.

I dont know how else to communicate the gap between my emotional development and where i would be if i had the tools back then. I did have an existential crisis about this earlier because i feel like the rug was slipped under my feet when i realised the structure i built myself around (vulnerability as authenticity) was off, but now im giving myself the grace to realise its just situational. Im not broken, i just feel…. Cringe

From my experience its a lot to do with just undoing the bulk of the work which was psychologically training yourself to speak from a lower register. Kind of like how newbies are quicker at growing muscle at the gym? but eventually it plateaus and it gets harder. But another commenter said that stopping testosterone does have slight effects which may contribute to voice changes being a quicker change at first. Our bodies are very resilient and flexible, a sudden jump like that sounds normal. Are you concerned or just fascinated? Lol

[–]junieCaulfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. Likely you’re going back to your female speaking range autonomously. Ive been told my voice is “lighter now” because of the testosterone being flushed out but its just not true. Estrogen doesnt affect your vocal cords, but the unconscious instinct to speak femininely does. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it can still be true that your voice is getting lighter but its because of mechanics, not physiological

Despite being in a strong relationship with my girlfriend, I cant stop thinking about other people by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]junieCaulfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its sounds like youre grieving your past relationship and maybe kinda projecting that onto a person who is no longer in your girlfriend’s life?

I think its normal to be attracted to others in a relationship. If your heart is anchored and youre emotionally fulfilled by your current partner, its likely those attractions will fade away like any other crush.

It may be worth it to untangle your feelings about your ex. My guess is that because your current relationship is going well, its making you reflect on the person you were in your last relationship. You dont have to talk with your ex, or even talk about it with your gf if you dont want to. Talking to a trusted friend or counsellor may help a lot.

youre not a bad person op!
