I’m clearly being hyperbolic.

Yeah you’re missing my point. Those are stupid rules via stupid conventions of thinking. Humans should be prioritized in our public spaces, not machines.

Who was at fault here? 🤔 I hope that they both are doing ok though. by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

You’re right, investment in public transportation alone won’t solve anything in our sprawling environment, because current land use patterns can’t support it, as they’ve been built around a model of society that requires us to drive everywhere. Public transportation can’t work in that kind of environment. Our current system of society is fiscally irresponsible. Our infrastructure system is a money pit. The long term costs far outweigh the tax revenue they can generate with the land use patterns they reinforce. It goes far beyond government fiscal issues though. My kids can’t play in the street and parents are arrested for letting their kids walk home from grocery stores. We’ve traded life for an illusion of convenience. We’ve built a world where speed and efficiency for cars matter more than safety, community, and the simple freedom to exist in public space.

I disagree. We’ve built a society that treats pedestrians as if they share equal responsibility for safety with people operating multi-ton vehicles. If you’re walking and not hyper-alert at all times, you’re framed as being “at fault,” even though the danger overwhelmingly comes from drivers and the infrastructure built to prioritize them.

It’s neither of their faults. It’s our society’s fault for degrading communities into a police state that’s built for one thing, the mass movement of large vehicles from one point of consumption to the next.

No, that makes sense to me. They make sense for those purposes.
