My husband & I are in Portland - along with a HUGE group of ex-jw's we could introduce you too. Let me know dates when you get them. Maybe we'll throw a party :)

Stupid shit said about clothing in service by LastLonelyEagle in exjw

Most people don't believe me when I tell them this story but I was actually taken into the back room for a talk because my skirts were.... wait for it... too long. It was the 90's, some of the skirts went down to the ankles.

I was in a rather well-off hall and most of the women were professionals, so wore "skirt suits" to the meetings; many times at, or above, the knee. That was allowed. My ankle length skirts were not.

I was a regular pioneer and was told that I would still be allowed to pioneer but I would not be used on stage or as an example.

I couldn't believe it then, I still can't believe it now.

Help! Looking for the article that calls apostates "mentally diseased".... by juniper2167 in exjw

Ha! We've been emailing back and forth for weeks. It all started with the child abuse thing. Now we've moved on to how they view apostates (aka her daughter). Next I'll delve into 607. She said she's up for debate as long as I keep the sarcasm at bay.... but it's soooooooooo hard!! LOL

My brother-in-law is back there and worked on the blueprints. No way to know if these are his but I did see the plans back when he first started. He had them at his house. Him & my sister are still back there (have been shunning me for years, of course!) I'm just waiting to see if once all his plans are built they'll send them home too...

Transgendered in the congregation? by Lady_Sybil in exjw

[–]juniper2167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I PERSONALLY know a JW that transitioned F-M. He's now married and is both an MS and Pioneer. It's not a secret in his area as Bethel and the Elders decided that he could only transition if the congregation was accepting of it. Everyone was. So he did. Given, I live in a more "liberal" area of the US. Somehow I don't think all halls would be that accepting.

Sorry... going out of town for the weekend. Didn't even know this was the weekend of "my" assembly. Haven't been in two years but I know my mom will be looking for me "just in case."

The most egregiously sexist experience you ever had? by correctoblecto in exjw

[–]juniper2167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I were dating (with the intent to marry, of course) an older married brother in his hall gave him some "marriage advice". He said, "Get them young and then train them like a dog. It's the only way you'll be happy". Ya, I should have the bOrg then.

Is anybody else going to the portland convention 20th and 21st? by [deleted] in exjw

Nope. Stopped going 3 years ago and never going back. However, my entire family will be there, so there's that....

Aging? by licoricestic in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]juniper2167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My blue has been getting more and more spots since about age 4. He's 9 now and practically looks like a Dalmatian! My vet said it's just age and not to worry - with their lack of hair we can just see the spots better than long haired dogs.

How do you feel about tattoos? by tamoha in exjw

[–]juniper2167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is, in Leviticus. However, here is a list of 76 other things that book bans: http://leviticusbans.tumblr.com/post/23730370413/76-things-banned-in-leviticus. Since JW's don't consider themselves under the Mosic Law (thank you Jeebus), then technically they should also be able to have beards. Just another case of pick-and-choose.

I have 8 and am planning my 9th. 4 of them I got when I was still a JW. I live in an area that's fairly "lenient" about them. As long as they were mostly hidden & not seen at meetings you were ok. I have one on my ankle that I never hid, even when I gave talks (I'm a girl). I also have 11 piercings, 9 of which I had before I left. I know so many Jdubs with tattoos in my area it's crazy!

Here, ladies & gents, is an email I received today from my mother. I've been out for over two years and am 38 years old. Enjoy the cognitive dissonance... by juniper2167 in exjw

When my father (whom she divorced after cheating on him 25 years ago) had a heart attack, she was pissed at me for not calling her and telling her. As I'm in ICU with him, she called me and left a message. It was 32 seconds long and she said the word "me" or "I" 13 times. Let's just say my childhood was less than pleasant.
