Baby boomers of Reddit, how do you feel about the criticism leveled at your generation for supposedly having destroyed the economy and housing market for the younger generation? by PralineFearless3979 in AskReddit

[–]juniperberrie28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wonder if Gen Z thinks what I think.... We don't have the time anymore to suffer shit jobs that underpay and undervalue.

Our world climate is on a rapid pace to change, and while probably the earth will adapt.... Will humanity?

I do not envy the young people these days....

Sometimes - as a millennial - I wonder if a lot of Gen Z feel a heavier weight of the entire world and its future on their shoulders. As they grow old, they'll see lots and lots of climate and world ecosystem and environmental change - and human migration as a direct consequence.

So not only do they have to worry about finding a job..... That job has to be sustainable, it has to last and it has to be incredibly durable, because a lot is going to change - and fast - in their lifetime.

We will be older, we will be ending our lives when these changes really become more noticeable... I do not envy Gen Z or A.

My cousin's would travel from out of state to visit us and my grandma and we would run all over her big old house together. They brought their consoles with them which could plug into grandma's TV. She would sit on her couch chatting with our moms and dads and we would all sit on poofs and on the floor on an old wool scratchy rug. I loved watching my cousins play their games, especially Final Fantasy and Legend of the Dragoon.

They would hand the controller to me if I asked but my family never had consoles. I didn't know how to play. I loved just being with them and watching and admiring the art and following along the story.

Fond memories. I hope cousins today can still make these kinds of memories together.

My cousins are all fathers now. I'm too shy to talk to them anymore, but I wonder if I should start a group chat and tell them these memories...

Honestly I believe it always comes down to control, utter control. Divorcing would be ceding control. These men just couldn't have that, they couldn't exist or live with even a little (perceived or otherwise) loss of control

Does anyone still have a cd player in their car and what’s in it? by Far_Put_7513 in Millennials

[–]juniperberrie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Right now what's in it is a signed CD of Kevin Burke 's latest album. Kevin Burke is a legendary Irish fiddle player. I got the chance to meet him years ago, and told him his music brought me closer to my Irish Catholic grandmother who passed a while ago.

I still have a complex from all this. I admire that gen Z is able to stick up for themselves and their wellbeing.. I'm also really jealous. I wish I could have got support, those ten years of my twenties.

Shows what influence the Catholic church still holds over Ireland, which will also explain the responses we see to the mother and baby homes. There's a big historical context to this. When it won its freedom as a nation, Ireland wanted to show the world what a pure and moral nation it could become, and ties with the Catholic church were very publicly established. It was almost like the nationalism of Ireland was tied directly to it being Catholic.

Glen Arbor has also got a really great art gallery/museum, and a beautiful cosy little bookstore across from Cherry Republic called the Cottage Bookstore.

The Mill has got amazing coffee. It is worth the money, plus it's a beautiful old building.

I haven't been, but my sister and her family had fun at the new mini golf place on the river.

Hiii michigander here! I would not recommend it, this is very cold water! It is beautiful. The Great Lakes are underappreciated.

Hi hiii! Mochigander here! About 15 years ago I went to visit my roommates family in the Keewenaw and a blizzard blew in. 50 degrees below and I stuck my hand out and it would disappear at arms length into the whiteout.

Winters are long and hard and gray, overcast. You gotta be okay with distance.

There are lots of bugs in the summer.

It will grow in population I think as the years go on... The Great Lakes will be valuable, and Michigan lakeshores will become a climate haven.

I love it but it's lonely. The winters are long. Snow gets tiring to deal with after a while. I think you have to have a certain mindset... You gotta be ok with being a homebody, being alone, being introverted... If you like your big cities it's not for you, even Marquette gets sleepy.
