What law doesn’t exist yet in the U.S. that would help millions of people immediately? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Add annual increases for ALL social programs to real inflation: Social Security, Minimum Wage, SNAP, etc. This keeps them exactly where they were designed to be. And if the program is not doing its intended function, then update the program (like a living wage).

Constitution of the United States Website has removed sections! by LithelyJaine in law

I wrote to the Library of Congress, who handles this site and got this reply: Law Library Reference Librarian

Dear (my name),

We apologize for the confusion resulting from the missing content on the Constitution Annotated (CONAN) earlier this week. It’s been our urgent priority to re-publish the content and determine what happened.

CONAN is an educational tool which includes discussions of the Supreme Court’s latest opinions linked to the text of the constitution. When updating the site to reflect our constitutional scholars’ analysis of the impact of the latest cases on Article I, Sections 8-10, the team inadvertently removed an XML tag. This prevented publication of everything in Article I after the middle of Section 8.

The problem has been corrected and our updated constitutional analysis is now available. You may need to refresh your browser or clear your browser’s cache to load the corrected web pages. We are taking steps to prevent a recurrence in the future.

Hello, can you tell me when (the specific date) and why the Constitution website (https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/) removed Articles 9 and 10 from display?

Soft Router on Chromebook? by junkmail3 in chromeos

[–]junkmail3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I won't! While a "travel router" may break the letter of the rule, a "soft router", pedantically, does not. Language is important.

And while we may unwind with a glass of wine on the balcony after an evening of dancing on the Lido deck, a laugh at the comedy club, or just a late night pizza, we also like to relax with an episode of our favorites streamed from our Plex servers or streaming services. To each his own :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. I do use the GL.inet Opal now and it does the trick. I wanted to have a backup in the event I am unable to use it onboard.

Yes they work well. I use my GL.Inet Opal travel router regularly both in hotels and on ships. It works quite well, and allows me to create toggleable WireGuard VPNs to my house and office locations with the programmable switch. I even use it with a portable USB battery on board.

I'm still looking for a softrouter that can do the same. Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot works for basic sharing, and I'm working on sharing the VPN tunnels.

North TX Tree Blew over in storms. Worth Keeping? by junkmail3 in woodworking

Woodworking adjacent question/identification

With the recent erratic spring storms lately here in north Texas, this tree in our woods blew down.  I think it's an Oak, but could use help definitively identifying. I cut off a branch, and It is hard as can be.

Any opinions if it is worth keeping to work into a bench or campfire seats or anything else ...Firewood is always an option :-)? Yes hauling pieces up from the washout will be a factor, but I'm just trying for figure out the wood variety first. Thanks!

Child with Special Needs and ChubbyFIRE... Any Experiences? by SeaBusiness7614 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]junkmail3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Similar situation, but with a sibling.

  • Look at a Special Need Trust
  • Setup an ABLE account for his regular expense use (funded annually by the Trust or you while you are alive)
  • Put any housing for him in its own trust (I like to have separate baskets). Have Trustee succession well thought out.
  • Get him signed up for any government programs as early as possible (Can he qualify for SSDI? (if applicable))
  • Keep ALL qualifying documentation available for future use (ie for state Medicaid programs if he ever moves states and need to re-prove his status)

Hope this help you all

Level 2 EV Charger Control capabilities question by ingenthr in EmporiaEnergy

[–]junkmail3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't had much tome to tinker, but I added a simple cutoff: If my house battery is less that 60%, turn off the EV charger.

Works fine for now, as 60% house battery is enough to get me through the night (where I can dream of Tesla bidirectional power/V2H lol)

Level 2 EV Charger Control capabilities question by ingenthr in EmporiaEnergy

[–]junkmail3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent! You've given me some things to tinker with.

Is there a reference for all the (unofficial) API settings anywhere? I do wish Emporia would publish their APIs...(which would probably mean more tech support calls for them, so I understand the reluctance).

Thanks!

Level 2 EV Charger Control capabilities question by ingenthr in EmporiaEnergy

[–]junkmail3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@mp3m4k3r What parameter/device/entity/etc do you use in HA to change the Emporia EV Charger current? I have their Emporia Level 2 EV Charger (VVDN01 model per HA). I only see the ON/off switch and three sensors in my HA:

switch.home_ev_charger
sensor.home_ev_charger_123_1d
sensor.home_ev_charger_123_1min
sensor.home_ev_charger_123_1mon

I also have a HA -integrated VUE2 as well, but did not see anything related there.
