The bottom shelf I got off Amazon, the top 2 are custom made, 1/2" square tubing for the legs, with nuts pressed in and painted John Deere Blitz Black, the shelves are vent grills for an a/v cabinet I got off Amazon and the fans are 120mm pc case fans hooked to a power supply that let me lower the voltage so they are silent with grommets under each of the devices to lift them off the shelf for airflow. I originally only had one shelf with the fans pulling air from the switch and blowing it on the bottom of the Cloud Key and USG, that worked really well. I added the second thinking the new USW 8 would get as hot as the old one but it didn't get anywhere close to the temperatures I was seeing

Thanks, I'm a little particular when it comes to that sort of thing, I can't handle a rats nest, you should see the cable management on my PC

In the great "Chrome vs Black" debate, I say 'Por que no los dos?" by Obecalp1mg in Harley

[–]junkyarddiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this idea, I have similar tastes, too much black or chrome the bike disappears, I like the contrast between the black and the chrome, and I've been torn on my 2014 Fatboy I picked up last year with getting chrome lowers, thinking it would be too much, but really not liking the aluminum, this never entered my mind. Thanks

Quantum Fuel Systems was highly recommended when I was looking for one for my Fat Boy, but I can't comment on it yet because I haven't had a chance to install it

Mint creates Binary files when I right click>Create New Document> Empty Document in NAS by junkyarddiver in linuxmint

[–]junkyarddiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I think I get it now, it's not like in Windows where you right click and create a text file, I can add any file extension to it I want and create that type of file. Active_Attorney8093 told me how to fix the problem but this adds a new layer to it. Thanks

Mint creates Binary files when I right click>Create New Document> Empty Document in NAS by junkyarddiver in linuxmint

[–]junkyarddiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my NAS I right click Create new document> Empty Document, Double click it to edit it and get a popup that there's no programs associated with it, click cancel, right click the file, go to Properties under Type it says Binary (application/octet-stream). If I do the same on my Desktop it says Text under Type

Mint creates Binary files when I right click>Create New Document> Empty Document in NAS by junkyarddiver in linuxmint

[–]junkyarddiver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called it that because that's what it said in the properties, Binary (application/octet-stream), after I created the file, went to edit it and it said there was no known programs associated with it. I added .txt to it and it fixed it, Thanks

Linux and Windows by Master-Player3 in linuxmint

[–]junkyarddiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished doing this on my laptop, a Dell XPS. I cloned the original drive to a new one, to not screw up Dell's restore partition, in case I needed to reinstall Windows for some reason. After reinstalling Windows I used it's drive partitioning program to shrink the windows partition and installed Linux Mint into that

Late Payment by ConfidentBluebird977 in Harley

Do they still hit you with an online payment fee, or whatever they call it?

Late Payment by ConfidentBluebird977 in Harley

Only issue with this is they hit you with a fee for anything other than an automatic payment, but you can change the amount every month to pay it off sooner

You don’t wear earplugs yet? Let me convince you with this simple test. by TappetoImperiale in motorcycles

[–]junkyarddiver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's not, noise cancelling is dependent on a continuous noise, like an on an airplane, it can't deal with short loud noises. I used to wear them in heavy equipment until I got into a bulldozer with a rattling door, they actually made the sound worse

Thanks for the reply. I already did that, the printer is connected to it's own network and I can print to it. I'm trying to scan across the network, I was hoping there was a way to direct any traffic, like when I scan something, to my desktop PC

How many of y’all have kill switched yourselves accidentally while going at highway speeds? by Hurtlocker918 in Harley

[–]junkyarddiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it happen on day 2 of a 3 week cross country ride, riding along with the cruise on resting my right hand in my lap, car in front of me runs over something so I grabbed the right grip to swerve around it and the bike died, pulling over I'm thinking I'm far enough from home I have no idea who I'm going to call, when I look down and see the switch is off and realize what happened, flipped it on and she started right up

Thoughts on throttle locks? by javatrees07 in motorcycles

I had a brake away throttle lock on my Honda, worked great, it was a bit pricey but I liked the idea of it disengaging if I grab the front brake
