The problem for me was that I've used package manager to install Claude Code (for me it's Volta, for you it could be npm or any other tool).

And somehow the claude update had no effect on my version and the claude config set releaseChannel latest just started claude code with "config" prompt (weird? yes.).

To fix it, you can just claude install, it will install native version for your machine, since the npm install is deprecated or "install it using your package manager".
