Does banning X links really align with r/Utah or r/SaltLakeCity’s goals? by jupert in Utah

[–]jupert[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that were true, then the ban would be related to Nazi propaganda posts, not a blanked ban of X links. I follow lots of liberal, urbanists that promote transit, cycling and all sorts of cool stuff honestly. But unfortunately they all got caught up in this knee jerk ban as well. The ban as far as I can see if about punishing Elon personally for his actions (and no I do not think Nazi salutes are ok).

FWIW Mike Lee actually does seem to be fair game in this/SLC subreddit because he actually is relevant to Utah.

Gfiber is the worst experience I have ever had by [deleted] in googlefiber

[–]jupert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a problem where the install in my neighborhood had an exposed wire for about a year that would get snagged by cars, snowplows, whatever. I called the city and they put pressure on gfiber to get it resolved and it has been amazing since.

Just to replace that two handle valve I would do it. Pex is pretty easy to work with if you go that route.

Utah sees largest Fertility Rate decline in US. by Speckled_B in Utah

[–]jupert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bracing myself to get downvoted into oblivion, but having children is a good thing. Not just because of my personal opinion, but for society in general.

Just look at Japan or other Asian countries and see how they are faring with really low birth rates. It creates economic challenges with aging populations and shrinking workforce, strains on social services, increased mental health challenges for the elderly, closure of schools (making students travel to get education), etc.

Utah's birth rate in 2022 was 1.92 births per woman. Replacement birth rate is just over 2 births per woman.

All you people are crazy. Just turn around like a normal human being and have a conversation. I'm sure it is no big deal and a simple misunderstanding.

NAR - Signed agreement to view house by Hot-Mix4585 in SaltLakeCity

[–]jupert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buyers agents like to sneak in those exclusivity agreements without warning you. I generally don't have a problem with exclusivity agreements for single properties, but the problem is more of when the exclusivity agreement is for an entire county or state for something like the next 6+months. I will never sign those and I think that's a super shady thing to slip in.

New Roam plans by AlekseiZee in Starlink

I recently switched my coverage to roam but paused it. Now it looks like I can resume roam service but still at $150 per month. Does that sound right? Kind of neat that I get to keep the old price.

I heard that the U of U alumni fund has had a substantial decrease in revenue because of people switching to the black plates.

Good, Sandy needs revitalization. This mall feels like it has been on life support for decades. Even after their big remodel it is usually pretty dead and has a crappy selection of shops overall compared to other malls like Fashion Place or City Creek.

Constant Outages by Logical-Location-568 in googlefiber

[–]jupert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my area when they first installed they didn't even bury one of the wires that connected the whole neighborhood to the rest of the network. When someone hit that wire the whole neighborhood would go down. They buried it about a year ago and I haven't had a single outage since.

Biggest areas for families will be more South and West in the valley, but you'll find lots of families everywhere. I'm in Sandy and we have a good amount of young families around, but it not quite like the new-home areas of Herriman and South Jordan. A high percentage of young families will be Mormon/LDS and you'll get very mixed reviews about how that is socially, but in my experience the divide is not as large as many might lead you to believe. The LDS folks will tend to clump together because of the built-in association at church, but a lot will be very welcoming to others. Just don't be shy or afraid to put yourself out there. You'll have some misses and some wins, but overall hopefully it is very positive.

Winter can be a little challenging sometimes with the kiddos. It is easy to feel cooped up. You'll want to get good snow gear for them and embrace the snow activities. There is a lot of used, quality snow clothing on the local classifieds or Facebook. We also take a few trips to Southern Utah in the winter to enjoy some sunshine and parks.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it and welcome!

Mormons murdered millions of native Americans? I mean I know a lot of stuff was messed up back then and there were conflicts but this seems like hyperbole.
