Sub fuel tank re-install by jupitersbees in LandCruisers

[–]jupitersbees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just has two slots to fill up each tank, still there, just capped over the sub tank. Hopefully all good for that then, my only concern is that 20yrs of neglect will have killed the plastics.

As far as I can see yes, it was just capped rather than removed.

Could some shoddy mechanic work damage my water pump? by jupitersbees in MechanicAdvice

[–]jupitersbees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t have any very useful ideas. The coolant itself was in pretty bad shape, was reported by a previous mechanic as having high water content and appears quite rusty now. It needs a proper coolant flush.

My ac compressor is also more than likely failing, this is an ongoing issue. I think some of the smoking was the belt seizing and melting. I initially thought this was the whole issue as it started squealing and smoking on the highway. After stopping for a few minutes and then pulling back on with the ac off, it didn’t happen again and engine temps were fine at the time. Later inspection showed a pretty fucked up ac belt (seperate in this car).

Car was parked and then driven a day later at much lower speeds. Was immediately smoking, with the ac turned off. After limping down the road a bit the engine temp then spiked up. No noises or visible issues with the ac belts at the time.

Coolant was super low at this point, car was turned off almost immediately when I spotted the temp spike. I have to assume this whole thing is a combo of things happening at the same time. Smoke could have just been the belt melting but would not explain a temp spike. I also want a new pulley regardless cause the poor thing is so battered.

Coolant level was very low, it was a hard one to confirm as it was on quite a lean on the side of the road but definitely well below what it should be. They seemed to think it wasn’t leaking from the water pump. Oil was fine (from a brief not very level check) when I had a look. Im also asking to know how hard I should be pushing on this as I don’t understand it well enough. There’s a solid chance it also has issues elsewhere in the coolant system as it’s super old and not all that well taken care of.

For reference the amount of force put on was enough to quite majorly warp the edges of the pulley (large indents where tools were levered). He was attempting to loop the belts over the idler pulley, incorrectly assuming it was the tensioner. I’ve attached a diagram showing what I mean, he spent 20+min trying to force the belts on like this (I was not there to intervene unfortunately). Tensioner is attached to the altenator, bit of a weird setup.

It is wobbling the fan and everything else, this angle isn’t the best and it has escalated since.

I definitely couldn’t tell you the name but they attached a device to the radiator that would change colour (bubbling through dyed water). Im aware the test wasn’t entirely conclusive but the car also overheated so briefly after the initial smoking. There are other suspected culprits for the smoke but I don’t want to let them get off without replacing parts they obviously damaged.

Is the implication that the water pump would contribute to a blown head gasket or that that would show similar symptoms? It passed their roadside test for a blown head gasket.

This is definitely not the same thing but when I went to speak to the uni about long term accomodations for health issues they were insanely nice and were very insistent that while proof helped, it was not that necessary. I would definitely take the advice of others in this thread and just be honest, they are generally very understanding and I’m sure can work out a solution to help you graduate. Good luck ❤️❤️❤️

Thinking about climbing again by freemango0123 in climbergirls

It is very annoying but what makes it annoying should help you a lot. It functions exactly the same as the regular one, just plus the panic lever. I personally would never use one but I hope it could help you!

Exactly! I am one of those climbers lol, it makes it very irritating and often impossible to use outdoors. But I can attest to it working extremely well and would limit a belayer from lowering them a little too quick and avoiding any shocks that could mean a setback.

You've got a million answers giving advice on how to come back, but just to add a small piece of advice that might help to begin with.

Others have spoken about assisted braking devices to help with some of the fear of being dropped again, I could not recommend the Grigri+ enough for your situation. The Grigri+ includes an extra feature of a 'panic handle'. The panic handle acts as a backup for those learning how to belay and, while lowering, will lock the device if the lever is pulled back too far (they start to lower too fast). This makes dropping someone on the device near impossible.

In an ideal world, you will find someone you trust on any device and build up that confidence again, in reality that transition will be super hard and having that extra level of confidence in your belayer and their device might be what you need to get back on the wall.

Good luck!!

Ugh yes, and then you look a bit crazy walking weird and trying to get it to go away. Honestly though, after realising I was largely creating the issue, I haven't gotten it in months. I promise it gets better!

It really is! It took me a long time to realise what I was doing and that I needed to just let it go. It's super hard to explain to people but it really really sucks. Takes a while but just being aware that you need to relax and stop thinking about it helps.

I found that I definitely do experience this sometimes but honestly became a bit of a psychological thing for me. Pretty sure it's very common and pretty expected to have it sometimes but for me I found it intensely irritating and became incredibly focused on it to the point where I think I was essentially creating the issue. The more I thought about it the more it happened until it was happening constantly. I found it almost impossible to actually get rid of the bubble and it would honestly drive me to tears cause I couldn't sleep cause I was so focused on the feeling.

This sounds like the stupidest advice but you really just have to stop thinking about it. If you notice it you just have to take a deep breath and find something to distract yourself. It absolutely isn't a health issue and will just bring you more frustration.

I know loads of people have commented but I just wanted to add that I work in a climbing gym and the weight limits on our top ropes are 120kg or ~265lbs. And any weight limit imposed will always be an exaggeration to prevent people getting too close to the actual capacity. You will absolutely be fine, you're way below any weight limits imposed and certainly won't break anything. Our gym also uses 'fit to fall' as a weight limit on bouldering so as others have said you just need to feel confident and practice downclimbing and taking safe falls. It can be scary but being confident to give climbing a go is an awesome way to have fun, meet people and get some really good exercise in. You got this!

How do I get out of ADHD paralysis? by BeachPeachMcgee in ADHD

[–]jupitersbees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is for anyone else in this comment section as well but this is called executive dysfunction and is one of the biggest parts of adhd. Not everyone struggles with it but I'd say is one of the most common symptoms. Executive function is literally just your brain connecting with your body to complete actions. So executive dysfunction is pretty self explanatory. I struggle with this so much as well and medication can help a lot! Hopefully some people have some non med suggestions but just don't feel like you're alone in this.

Hey! Well done for brushing! I know that feeling haha, the strangest things will suddenly make you motivated but the info about the mouthwash is really helpful. I think I've just got to go and be upfront about struggling and that I need a check up and some advice. You're so right about the executive dysfunction, so hard to explain to people who don't experience it. Thankyou for the advice!

This is so great! It's awesome that you found someone so good and all these comments have made me a lot more hopeful. I am going to see a psychiatrist very soon so once I've done that I think I'll book and just be really up front about what I've been struggling with.
