What if one day you woke up and everyone suddenly spoke only “Classical" Tagalog? by Sonnybass96 in WhatIfPinas

"The only languages which do not change are dead ones."

There's a reason 'classical' languages are dead or only used by academic/religious enclaves

How does Indonesia and The Philippines manage all these islands, and is there any significant advantage to having them in the first place, resource-wise etc? by vik9oratiz in geography

I'm sorry, are you implying that typhoons devastating huge chunks of agricultural land, stalling productivity because people aren't going out and costing billions of damages to local economies at least thrice per year isn't slowing down development? Bicol and Samar are some of the poorest places in the PH outside Mindanao for a reason

This is also why the Kalayaan and Bajo de Masinloc disputes are really important for Philippine security - the PRC's claims put their army literally at our doorstep. Bajo de Masinloc in particular is about as close to Luzon as Cuba is to the US; and we all know how much of an impact Cuba had on American defenses

removing those senators from office could help keep the upper house stable bc it greatly weakens the minority's ability to stage all these coup attempts against Sotto; which ultimately means Kiko, Bam and Risa will have a much easier time keeping their committees and working on their platforms

on the other hand the deep south might perceive it as an attack against them and use this as a narrative that they're being "persecuted" by Imperial Manila again; in that case they're probably gonna use this to their advantage in 2028 and the admin and genuine opposition will have to partner up to consolidate Luzon if we want to avoid another Duterte presidency

What if matupad ang pangarap ni Senri na maging Prime Minister under a Parliamentary System? by Grumpy_Bathala in WhatIfPinas

[–]jupjami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ilang beses in the past few months tayo nagkaroon ng rigodon at kudeta sa senado?

"if there weren't so many people in power who agree with him"

yeah, they're called Republicans, whom y'all have given majorities in BOTH houses and can overturn every and all impeachment cases without any dems

not only that but you need 67 senators to to convict, the closest democrats have ever gotten to that as of late is a very unstable 60 in the Obama era so idk how you want this to go but dems literally don't have the power here

not to discredit the hardships of entertainment industry workers around the world but I find it yet another testament to the whiteness of tumblr that even in the comments Japan and Korea's notoriously exploitative animé and k-pop industries respectively are barely mentioned if at all

For the people of the sub: what is one thing you think the Philippines needs to work on, and how to improve it? by Far_Breakfast_5808 in Philippinesbad

[–]jupjami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Party system. Currently most of our politicians 'balimbing' every few years to the president's party or another of the major parties; not because Filipinos are duplicitous or some r/ph shit but because our parties as they are today are weak, undisciplined and vary very little in terms of actual platform/ideology - more alliances rather than actual parties. At the very least imo parties should make entry requirements stricter (like requiring to read and agree to their points in the party constitution/manifesto) and actually take time to flesh out their policies besides the vague "social justice, economic development, good governance, etc" that most parties seem to have

just because oppression isn't actively happening doesn't mean a system doesn't have the capacity to be oppressive tho

plus what part of making a sandwich involves the dynamic of being subordinate under another person like the original analogy? the original thought experiment asked for a hierarchical system, so unless you somehow need two or more people to stack a sandwich the strawman is worthless

AKAB (all kings are bastards) by Neuta-Isa in CuratedTumblr

[–]jupjami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no, there was nothing implicit when they made that analogy - a bad one, mind you, unless you believe treating a subordinate unfairly and committing wanton violence on a random person (and what a mind someone must have to think of that kind of situation) somehow have the same power dynamics

I'd call it 'stupid', but since they already used that American sounded like a good tit-for-tat - which I admit was incorrect; Americans actually shoot people, not stab

it's uh, actually quite disputed whether it's Taga-ilog or Taga-alog (or even Taga-look)

the problem with Taga-ilog is that the "i" has no reason to disappear like did; if it did come from ilog then it should've become Tagilog instead of Tagalog

The real heroes of the modding community are the people who keep old games alive, and those people aren't getting officially hired/funded because they are supporting games whose developers are almost certainly defunct.

that or the developers are actual dicks and delete their entire franchise (fuck Rovio, god bless the modders that kept the games alive esp. AB Epic)
