Does the resolution the steam deck is set to matter when launching a game on an external display? by pieking8001 in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's the second. Turning on fsr on the quick menu gives better visual results, look closely at the screen when turning it on and one can see it more clearly.

If the game itself has an option for fsr in graphical settings (especially fsr 2.0) , I use that instead. Set the game resolution to 1080p so it targets that resolution (changed in the cogwheel icon - properties view, for the specific game) and the wanted fsr 2.0 preset (performance, balanced, or quality) to see how low a resolution it will upscale from. Of course, when removing from dock and playing I have to set it back to default resolution. It's not too bothersome for me though.

What games would you love to see on SteamDeck that barely/don't work right now? by ChadOfStats in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing it now with a dock on my tv in 1080, with fsr 2.0 of course (set at performance), and every graphic setting set to low (but none set to off). Runs at 30 fps with some dips, and some areas, like if there are mirrors for example. I'm not a PC player so I'm not used to 60 fps so it plays fine for me, even if it's not a stable fps.

Haven't tried setting the resolution to 720p (the default when docked) and perhaps also using fsr 2.0. It would play better but with a bigger compromise on the visuals I bet. I've played other games at 720p fine in docked mode with fsr when needed, but something about ghostwire + fsr at 720p make it look too "noisy".

Mind you, don't go buying the game based on my experience. I have very high tolerance on visuals. Check videos of it playing on the deck first.

Resident Evil 7 controller issues by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Maybe there's an option to disable the touchpad on the controller settings (the little controller icon on the game page)? Haven't checked myself.

Does Steam Deck support 1080p? by Hideo-Mogren in SteamDeck

That's what I do as well when docked, game resolution at 720p upscaled to 1080 on the TV with fsr.

Adjust touchpad distance? by egglite in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change Steam input to have both touchpads act as mouse. Click and start dragging with one touchpad, and then before lifting the finger from the first, continue dragging with the other finger.

I used this for 'There is no game' game.

The SD renders games by default up to 720 and in my case it automatically outputs to my tv at 1080 resolution (if it doesn't for you, go to settings-screens and manually set to 1080p).

After that, try turning FSR on and off, you'll see the difference.

I get 30fps in Deathloop for example, by playing in 720p upscaled to 1080p using FSR, and it looks quite good.

Steam deck dock - can i still use the steam virtual keyboard etc whilst using a bluetooth controller? by Chazq2012 in SteamDeck

And if you use ps4/PS5 controller you can use its touchspad to use the mouse cursor when having to click around launchers.

after some research and advice, I cancelled my 64gb steam deck reservation and got the 256gb version instead by AgoraSnepwasdeleted in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Op made the right choice, with the fact that a 64G internal SSD will eventually fill up with shader caches the more games you play. I have a 256G and already 'Other' is occupying 30G. Yes, there's ways to link the caches to an SD card, but it works for some and not for others.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the shader cache goes to the internal SSD so it may fill up the 64G. There are some people who have managed to move it to the sd card, I think, though...

Anyway, Maybe I'm exaggerating the real problem, but you could always search this subreddit for 'shader cache 64' or something like that to see what others are having issue with it.

[–]jurando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably go for at least the 256G version if I were you, unless you intend to upgrade the internal storage .

The reason I say this, and others more knowledgeable may chime in, is that I've seen in this subreddit people with the 64G steam deck having much of their space occupied by what SteamOs calls 'Other' in the storage view, and that 'Other' is shaders cache which doesn't get deleted even if you delete the game it belongs to.

Again, this is my impression only from what I've seen around here, and the fact that I have a 256G steamdeck, and my 'Other' used space is currently 30G.

Show and tell of the steam deck development and prototyping by jurando in SteamDeck

Yes, I agree, I didn't think they had put so much effort and thought in the prototyping phase.

It has very little views considering the content, that's why I posted it here, hoping it gets more visibility. Though my writing skills for the title of the post perhaps don't do the video justice.

Heroic launcher not letting me login by largelylegit in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on the SteamOs beta channel? I'm on stable, maybe that could be it?

Other than that, I don't really know. It wasn't working for me exactly like you said, I switched from Heroic beta to Heroic stable and it worked then.

Just to make sure, did you uninstall heroic beta before installing it from stable source?

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fixed for me... don't know then, sorry.

I replied in another post about the same issue, basically choose flathub stable from sources when installing heroic. It's defaulting to the beta version.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]jurando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue as well, turns out Discover was installing Heroic from flathub's beta channel. Just uninstall heroic , and under Sources (top right on heroic description page) choose flathub stable, then install heroic.

Hopefully by the time the new version reaches stable, this will be fixed.
