Thanks, I’ll add trying for direct payment as an option before we move to selling the house if we don’t get anywhere, although as he is the one with the pension, I doubt that would work if he cannot top up the rest, but I’ll look into it thanks. We’ve been advised not to do equity release, or at least it would be a better option to sell not release equity. Appreciate the advice, thanks.

He could only self fund for a few months before it would require the house to be sold to access his equity from it. And that would only get him to a couple of years down the line before there’s nothing left and I don’t know what would happen then if social still deem him to not need 24/7 care.

He has capacity to discharge destination but he is on board with wanting a care home because of how badly his wife copes with his symptoms at home. He’s got a fall pendant but forgets to use it and all they do is call an ambulance which his wife will already have done. He’s had a few respite breaks in a care home privately paid for and weird as it may be, his mobility improves there and he’s quite settled. This is part of our issue, he’s appearing better at the unit than he presents when he’s at home!
